Can you use an exhaust brake with the gear vendors unit? I thought somewhere I read that you couldn't but now I can't remember. Do you have to not be using the splitter while using the exhaust brake?
Regarding the Gear Vendors, you are correct, they do not want excess reverse torque through it and recommend or require it be in direct drive for exhaust braking.
On my unit if I engage the E brake in 3rd over it will slip and shudder at high rpm where breaking effort is high. I engage the the E brake in 5th over with no problems. There the Gear Vendors has a mechanical advantage over the engine and does not slip.
I bought my truck with the Gear Vendors already on it and I like it. But I second Larry's opinion. If I started from scratch I think I would take the 6 speed with 3. 54 and some bombs. Still 4. 11 is good for creeping in 1st.
Has anyone put a 7 speed behind the Cummins? Or should I be the first?
