Best brake pads for my 04, 2500 4x4

I just replaced front original pads with some all-metal pads from Napa Auto. They are brake smelly and hot, unlike the originals. They have me a little worried. Or are they supposed to be like that. Break in period stuff?? Were/are the originals pads organic or composites.

Personally I run organic pads, no metal at all. Yes they don't last as long, but they don't squeal or heat up and warp rotors. They are cheaper than buying rotors or having them turned. I have run them for years on my Chevy's. One old truck has never had the rotors turned in 18 years that I have owned it.
