best CB for the money?

What's the best CB radio? I mean, something out of a box I can plug in and work with. A radio that'll hold up and still has some gadgets. :-laf

I have a Cobra 29 that I have had good luck with. Has weather alert and night watch. 125. 00 at a truck stop. I think the antenna is a critical part also but I will admit I am not an expert on radios.

what about an antena to go with it? I had a K-40 years ago..... I have no Idea what's good today?

A good antenna is way more important than a good radio. A good radio will die a quick death without a good antenna. I have been out of the CB business about 10 years, but the K-40 was good and anything Wilson is unbeatable in a steal whip. For a pickup a mag mount steal whip on the top is as good as it gets, just gets tall. A very good ground is the most important. Check for SWR after you install whatever you put in. Anything under 2 is really good, over 2. 5 is not good. If you run a fiberglass in the bed you will have to put additional grounding to the bed to get your swr down.

I run a Galaxy 99, and it is a talker. I also run an Antron fiberglass off of the toolbox in the bed.

The one I use is a Firestik. I have it mounted on the left front fender. I use the 3ft. one so I can still get in the garage. I have a 4ft laying in the garage. On trips I have switched them out and could not tell the difference. The cb kept me awake at night over the past two years while I was hot-shotin.

If you can stomach it, Wilson 1000 drill mount. The antenna is $60. You can take off the center dome light easily if you have a quad cab and drill right there for a very clean install. Once you have a good antenna with a good SWR, the radio does not matter as much. Better have a good antenna and a crappy radio than vice versa!

well i like the cobra 29 nw tho i wish i had the weather but other then that i like it i also have a friend w/ a 25 and another w/ a 19 all very good radios and the way i understand it all radios have the same output power of 4 watts as mandated by fcc regs i have dual wislon 5ft fiberglass tuneable whips and pro-star conversion base antenna studs i have a range of about 6 or 7 miles and its clear as a bell my freinds have trouble picking me up at that range except the guy w/ the 25 who has dual whips too and under decent condtions ive done 10 miles or so anyways i hope that helps be careful tho im sure everyone would agree that radios like this are almost as bad as the trucks themselves once u start u just keep upgrading im 200+ into mine at least as is not counting the other setups ive tried
