I'm looking for a good mild chip for my new H. O auto. I don't want to worry about exhaust temps, and hurting my stock Auto.

Is there any 03's running flawless with a chip? Do they have all the bugs worked out?

I only pull snowmobiles around in the winter and a 8k lbs camp trailer in the summer.

Thanks for your help.

Rodney

After extensive research here, and chats with long time cummins and dodge "in the knows" locally (including the dealership's resident Dodge/Cummins expert), I have just ordered an Edge EZ (and gauges, Autometer Phantom, EGT, boost, transmission temp) for mine.

I've posted this before but several performance shops advised me just to be patient on spending my money on any box at the moment. Said to wait for the NEW type boxes to debut. I'm waiting!

If you go with the EZ you will be more than happy. You MUST install guages first. The EZ will get EGT temps up while towing. If you are worried about upgrading later, Edge will have a stackable box soon to go with the EZ. I have been running an EZ since last year this time. No problems.

Well, as with most people, you can sell your products used in the classifieds when the time comes to upgrade. Not too many people want to wait for the new and improved versions, when you can have something that puts a smile on your face right now. They are constantly improving products. There is always a box getting ready to hit the market with more power and options. You could wait forever. These guys that have been running EZ's for a year could be waiting yet another year to get one of these updated boxes. Instead they took the leap and I am sure very few of them are upset with themselves for not waiting. I plan to buy an EZ now and if something new and better comes along I will sell the old to offset some of the difference. That's the way the game goes. That's why you can find a lot of nice barely used products in the classifieds. If you buy smart, a lot of times you really don't loose anything. I am selling all the stuff off of my 01 since we let her go yesterday. All the aftermarket parts I had are off and most of them sold. I am rolling the money over into my new 03, so as far as I am concerned I will make out ok. Most of the parts I had were bought used through the classifieds for close to the same price as I am selling them. I won't make any money, but since I bought smart, I will break even on most of it.

Why spend the money on stacking boxes. Why not wait for the UPDATED boxes to come out and spend then?

That is the way they are making the box. It is a stacked unit with an in cab controller. I have also ran the Bullydog box for 6 months and am happier with the EZ on level 6. The bullydog is off the truck and sitting in the garage. Hopefully Edge will come out with the timing settings to add to the fueling. Then we will smoke some clutches for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did that exact thing, I waited like a good little boy for the timing/duration box, and look what it gets me... Nothing till dec, IF THAT... so i bought an ez yesterday - very excited, wish i would have not waiting so darn long

So, For those of you that have installed a fueling box on your auto truck, It has performed without a flaw? No TC clutch slippage, etc. ? Give me a rundown on how the transmission acts... ... I NEED to know!! :)

Can you pull off the EZ and a dodge tech can't tell that it's been there? (ECM wise)

P. S. I know you should be your own warranty station but I don't want to be. :D

I dont find it any big deal to wait. I'm gonna do a air box and gauges next and the fueling box last. I even waited on the air box thing until they get the bugs outa them too. Brackets etc. I'm kinda picky and dont like to spend money twice. also helps with the budget as the monthly note is a little steep. Of couse my first passion is horses and we had four in traing all summer at $400 each down to two and soon to be one I hope by middle of next week.

I have been waiting for the new boxes to come out, every month you here they are coming out next month:mad: so for now I got gages and afe air box,and exhaust.

Guys,

The EZ is a great box. It will really boost your towing power and it is fairly reasonable. You will not be sorry if you get one. Edge is working on a stackable system to add to the ez. I wouldn't wait any longer and feel the power.

I agree with Greg on this one. I put my EZ on the other day. It is night and day different from stock to level 6. Throttle response is awsome! We took some times of the truck with a g-tech before and after... stock 0-60 was 9. 3 and quarter was 17. 5 at 82 mph. Those were the averages of several runs. On level 6 those times dropped to 0-60 in 7. 5 and quarter was 15. 7 at 90 mph. Do get gauges though if you plan to run level 6 cause they can hit 1350 with stock exhaust and a dirty stock air filter. Haven't put the AFE in yet cause all they sent me was the cleaning kit and no filter!

All I have towed is about 7k and as long as you don't lug the engine on a long grade egt's aren't a problem on level 6.

some guys have had a problem running ez on level 6. i just ordered ez and 5" exhaustt last week got a great price so i could not wait anymore i will run ez on level 4 only.

one other thing if you buy an ez and want to upgrade then you can sell your ez here on the classifieds and lose a little cash. most people with the 48re will want your ez so unloading it on this board will not take long.

not to derail the post but is level 6 that much better than level 4?

sound like the 48re will hold level 4 (designed highest setting) for sure then. right?

Can't say about the auto transmission, but the Edge in my 6 speed is awsome. 22,500 GCVW up a 5% grade at 70 MPH!

I don't want to know what my EGT's are. It might scare me!

If you go to http://www.dieseldynamics.com/ website and run the "Truck Configurator" for different horespower levels you will see that at 400 RWHP it says "48RE OK". If you jump to 435 RWHP it says " Transmission Upgrades Required". This tells me that Keith and the people at DD feel the 48RE is strong.

Anything to add for us Keith?
