best chip for towing?

what is the best chip for a 2002 used for pulling?

my dad already has 275's and wants a little more. his main concern is warantee issues. maybe a Van Aaken with some extra void stickers to go with it or maybe a Pe Ez? what is the poll out there?TIA... james and dad

Go with the EZ, it has a built in boost fooler. If you go with the Van Aaken based boxes, you'll have to buy a separate boost module.

I took my truck in for service the other day. . (have contract for routine service). . I pulled out the EZ . . took about 5 minutes and then re-installed it afterwards. . another 5 minutes. EZ is easy !!

The VA boxes come with a boost module and an adjustable boost elbow.

I had an EZ and did not like it as well as the VA, buy both and send back the one he likes the least for a refund.

Blue Chip offers an excellent timing box. It is a Power Puck programmed to his specs. I have not tried the Diablo programing, but I know Chip's version works great.

Can any one recommend a vendor that carries the VA based BD- Power box? I have heard good first hand reports on performance and they do include the boost "fooling" function. Thanks. Jim G.

TST PM-3 Adjustable

Gents:



I have a PM-3 adjustable I just swapped into my 02 3500 from my 2000 2500. Pulled a 16K lb 5th wheel with it in the 2500, it performed great. Haven't towed with it connected to the 3500 yet, but I know it'll do great.



It's nice to adjust power in 15HP increments.

I have tried most of the VA type boxes, BD plug n play, raptor, and a few others that I have forgot what there names are.



If I was going to add a box for a certain power level and never want any more power I would choose the VA type box. To me they all seemed like very smooth running boxes and I liked the installation a little better.



I also have tryed most of the EZ type boxes, DD UFM, DD TTPM, and I think another one I can not remember. This was along time ago and I have tryed sooooo many that I can not remember all the names.



I choose the EDGE COMP box because I can adjust the power level for my towing situations and EGT"S.



Most all the fueling boxes incorperate a boost module feature, if not all of them.



Do like some one else said order all of them and them decide on the one you want to keep. Just make sure when you order that you ask them if you can return the box if it is not what you expected.



Useing whats listed in my signature I rarely have to tow above Level 1 which level 1 is the same HP as the none adjustable fueling boxes (within a few HP), remember I have stage 1 injectors which are the next step up in HP over the 275's.

If he's worried about warranty and he's already got 275's, get a 4" exhaust and a free-flowing air intake and his truck will have more power than he'll know what to do with. Guarnateed!!

Not one but two

There isn't just one good box there is two.



I've got a PowerMax 2 stacked on with an EZ and 275's and really like it. The combo is great for towing, I can leave the PM 2 on until I get up to about 27,000lbs then I have to turn it off and run just the EZ to keep the EGT's in check on the long uphill runs.



I'm still on the stock clutch but it's fadding fast.



I can tell ya one thing, what ever box he does go with he'll be very happy for about 3 months. After that it feels like stock again. Then you have to go with a PM3 and a set of stage 5 injectors.



Ouh, maybe thats me I'm thinking about.

Take a look at the Edge EZ. It has good gains without being too much. Also a 4" exhaust if you don't already have one and don't forget the gauges.

Best Bang for the Buck?

I like the Comp because it can be adjusted on the fly. But really, when you’re towing, adjusting on the fly is not an issue. I run the Comp at 2/1. I’m moderately bombed. If warranty is an issue, then the EZ is EZ to take off. It’s also adjustable, just not on the fly. I had an EZ. I think it was probably the best bang for the buck I’ve ever spent on the truck.
