I have came to the conclusion that I want to spend about $400 on a supercips/edge/BD box or similar. I'm looking for an upgrade in performance, but I by no means want to compromise anything with the truck or its reliability. I had the edge ez box in mind. What's your best suggestions for value/reliablility. Superchips?? 02 6 speed HO.

Get Marco's Smarty programmer (you'll have to get on the waiting list thought).

Send Bob Wagner a PM. You can check it out on the product R&D board.

If you want reliability I would recommend a box that don't tap the pump wire. VanAaken or Edge. Check Ebay. With all the guys buying new trucks, Ebay is full of boxes. I just did a search on dodge ez edge and came up with several in the $150 range.

Well my superchip seems to be a good tuner so far. nothing too big to kill my trans yet and for power its equal to the ez. just plug in set the power level, tire size if neded and you can also check dignostic codes.

Im limited by my transmission now. If I were in your shoes with the 6 speed Id get the comp or smarty

Ive pulled a 77 4x4 pickup to the mud bog and back 100 miles each way 75 no problem. plenty of power even with 315's and stock gears.

For the money if you're only looking for a little extra I would look for a used set of injectors in the classifieds, maybe something in the DD II range or a little bigger. I used to run with my Comp on level 3 or higher all of the time, now with the DD II's I run with the comp off. I bought my II's out of the classifieds for $250-300 from a member. Eventually I will be going quite a bit bigger but for right now these injectors are excellent.

Edge EZ or a VA box. OR a small set of injectors and a boost fooler... I'd rather have the timing that goes along with the Boxes too imho... . But on you're HO motor you may not want that, and with the 6 spd you'll be fine in that range on the stock clutch... . The VA box will give you better bottom end than the Edge box. I wouldn't even consider the Superchips or whatever type tuners other than maybe a SMARTY.

My $. 02 anyway.

van Aaken Smart Box R. Best chip for what you are looking for. Gives a better power gain than the Ez and costs about $100 less.

does the comp void the warrantly on say the VP-44??

Also... I'd post pics of my general lee if I could figure out how to on this site!

It does if you tap the pump wire. Technically no it doesn't if you don't tap it. But you have an EZ with in cab on/off that way, which is what I have now... Till my transmission is done, or till I can't resist tapping the wire... .

I've had five reliable years out of my EZ. I had a VA box before that was fine also. Stock injectors and either box works great! Add injectors and 1800lb camper+285's = trip to Fred Swanson for a DTT upgrade.

For reliability, I go with a Smarty. I had a comp box for few years and I went though several comp boxes because of the check engine light (overboost). Replaced the MAP sensor twice, but still had issues. Installed a MAD Catcher ECM, the check engine light is gone.

WEll after much pondering I made the final decision and bought an edge comp box last night. I figured for the extra $100, I should just go with the comp, allowing more flexiblity for mods down the road. Thanks for all the advice. -Pat

Couple, things! Besure to run the ground to the drivers side battery, not the air horn bolt. If you are not going to tap the pump for a while, then set it up like this:

main x sub level

1x1

2x2

3x3

4x4

5x5

So as you easily step thru the main levels 1-5, and you are varying the sub level which are in effect without the pump wire. I leave mine on 3 most of the time. SNOKING

SNOKING,

In your sig line you list this item: NAPA 6637 BHAF with outwears

I understand what the filter is, but it's the 'outwears' part that puzzles me. Is BHAF just a nickname for a bunch of different aftermarket filters?

thanks in advance,

Jack
