Best Doodads You Have

I was just cruising around the internet looking at different products. I'm curiouse, what kind of cool little doodads and accesories do you guys have that you thought were worthwhile?



I'm not talking about performance upgrades or anything like that... just accesories for your trucks.

I carry a telescoping handle windshield brush.



I also hav a small plug-in inverter for my laptop

i have a cap, in it i added a nice big inverter from farm and fleet, and i run christmas lights in the cap for the season. the blinking ones of course. makes for a nice conversation piece. also have a CB with dual antenna's. also added some nice fog lights under the rear bumper for backing up, makes a huge difference, specially plowing, also got those at farm and fleet. what a wonderful store. also changed all my lights to leds.

A few years ago I bought a water bottle holder for a bicycle, this thing is just heavy, vinyl-covered wire bent into a cylinder with a mounting bracket to screw it to the bicycle frame. I mounted it in the bed, right behind the driver's seat next to my Aux. tank. I keep my bottle of Stanedyne in it! The bottle always stays upright and never is lost, or worse, in the cab leaking. That stuff stinks!

I guess this is a doo dad? I made a steel frame that holds my aux fuel tank and alm truck box up off the floor of the truck. It gives me around 8-9" of clearance so I can hual full sheets of plywood or steel, and anything else that I might need. In the truck box, I mounted a Warn 6000lb winch, which I use to load - un-load our atv's, or other simular things.

Nerf bars are a must. . good for kickin' off the snow and good for parking lot protection.

Sometimes the simplest things are the best.



My next doodad will be one of those heavy duty folding steps that fit over the front tire so I can work on the engine... . my son bought one for his shop and I used it a couple of weeks ago... . mint ... and will fit behind the seat.

My favorite little gadget is my over head shelf, i have a pic in the readers rigs, i put my cb up on it and you can put everything that ends up in your seat up there.

I'll second the overhead shelf. Can't do without mine. Got them both through JC Whitney. I think the brand name is called Shelf-It. You can get them from a bunch of places. No drilling, just use your sun visor holes and then screw the visors under the shelf.



J Leonard, what kind of Nerf bars do you have? I've tried to find a source but they all end at the 94 model. Do these fit ours?

I'll third the Shelf-It, and I really like the Stanadyne bottle holder. I'll be doing that one.



As for the Shelf-It, does anyone know how to mount the visors so that they aren't at a crazy angle if you pull them 90* to the side?



Here's my doodad (not the best, but it's a doodad): For the short-cab trucks, mine came with a vinyl thing that hangs from the trim screws right below the back window. It has a bunch of pockets, great for all sorts of junk. I'm not sure where it came from, but I'd venture a guess that JC Whitney might have one.

Nope, and that was my one complaint about it and the reason I took it out. The storage space was nice, though. Anyone want to buy a Shelf-It?



Best doodad I have for the truck is one of the Harbor Freight 12-volt impact wrenches - only $20 if you catch them on sale. Works great for wheel lugs, and it even removed the pinion nuts on my Jeep axles (200 ft/lbs) when I was regearing them last weekend - my regular air impact wouldn't budge them.

J Leonard, what kind of Nerf bars do you have?

I bought Smittybuilt, but I wouldn't recommend them... I now call them *****ybuilt... .

They had to make them, they took 2x longer to show up, they didn't fit that well without modifying them, and now after 2 years the paint is peeling... . badly.

I have WESTIN step bars, the fit was correct and they still look great after 5 years. They can be purchased almost anywhere, and the price is cheaper now then when I bought them.

On the Shelf-Its, the older ones didn't take the side use of visors into account. The newer ones have the area around the visor mount holes cut out (about 2"x2") and are bent upward, at an angle.



With a couple of well placed holes and a Sawzall, you could make that mod on your own. I have a road trip coming up, but when I get home, I'll post a pic of how the newer ones work.

Uh huh, yeup, I had a shelf thingy in my old truck, haven't looked for one for my 2G's.



Geno's seatcovers are the most used-least praised doodad's I have. Don't know about 1G's--just looked, they don't list them for the early trucks. Maybe Covercraft can set yall up with something.



Tire step--gotta get one of those. The milk crate just ain't tall enough sometimes.

Hmmmm, I never thought of that. I'll have to try it when I find some time around the holidays. It makes sense, though, just cut 2 sides of a triangle and leave the front (side #3) connected. Then bend the peice up to even things out.

Then suffice it to say I was not impressed with their delivery,quality , or durability and would likely refrain from puirchasing their products in the future. This is based purely on my opinion and based on the only product I have ever purchased from them. There I got it in twice.





I looked for some Westin bars, but none of the places I researched had them and supossedly they were no longer made.
