I was going to use the PDR 215HP inj. with the 191 DVs, but found a great price on automotive 300HP 5 hole inj. Should I still install the 191s or consider the 181s instead on my 160HP pump?

181's are way cheaper. Get a used set from a vendor, they're take outs from 180 & 215 pumps.

Call the vendors that advertise on this site, you'll find a set.

Opinions here... ..... can the 300's and get 370's, were not talking about big money here, 370's need 181 DV's but 191's in the little pumps.

Jim: I was leary of the 370HPs, because I don't want to smoke out the neighborhood and also because I read in these forums and elsewhere that they don't have a completely compatible spray pattern with the DC truck pistons.

Pier's recommended the 215HP inj. with 191s, #10 plate, PDR HX35W turbo and 3K GSK for 370+ HP, whilst still keeping the exhaust relatively clean, so I figured the 300HP inj. with the correct spray pattern would be not too different.

In no way am I denying what "the man" said but could he be thinking you have a 215 pump? Just make sure they know what you want and what you have and the PDR group will lead you down the right trail. Good luck Jeff

Hum... . I'd have to go with Piers on this one, nice setup! I have only drove one truck with 300's in it and I didn't like them at all, unless you are after HP, 215's are real hard to beat! 370's have more smoke than 215 without a doubt but not what I call Smokey... ... but my mind is twisted a bit;)

Jim

Mark at Piers, recommended the 191s along with the other goodies above - I'm getting the ATS manifold as well - saves having to unbolt the new turbo again later...

I'm going with the 4GSK + valve springs to really help wake up the pump and the timing is set to 16. 5*.

The 4GSK is the way to go IMHO but I would go as jim says with the 370's. Everyone I know that went with the 300's now have changed to the 370's and are a lot happier.

Mark and I went over the configuration and my order today, he recommended that I use a non-wastegated 14cm housing. He felt this would complement the 300HP injectors and support at least 400HP along with the other mods as well as keeping the EGTs in check.

I asked him about the 300HP injectors and he said they'll be fine - they'll give more power than his original recommendation (215HP PDR injectors) and as others have noted a bit less than the 370HP.

britannic,

Are you sure about this? No need for DV sealing washers for 191's?

First time I've heard of this.

I'm only as sure as what Mark said. I asked if the copper washers were part of the DV kit and he told me they weren't required, because the DVs were precision lapped.

I ran 215 injectors and 191's on a 180 pump for quite a few miles. I am now running 370's and 181's. Personally I think the 215/191 combo, with the valet switch on, was a little smokier around town than the 370/181 combo I am running now. Overall I think the 370/181 combo is smokier but only during agressive driving. JMHO

BTW - I always thought the 300's were not an optimal spray pattern no the 370's?

I was under the same impression Cooker. This is (probably) why hardly anybody runs them. I remember reading the spray pattern does not match up well with the piston bowls in our trucks.

From an old post by Joe D:

"With strong torque plates, they (300 hp Marine Inj's) gave about 20 hp more at the bottom, a sag or reduction in hp in mid range, and a small gain--10 or 20 hp--above 2000. "

Actually, the injectors aren't the marine version, but instead have the spray pattern that matches the DC pistons, according to the supplier.

Guy's

I not to long ago put in a set of 300's in my dads truck along with a DZ turbo, he already had 4" and a #8 plate. as far as the 300's vs. the 370's josh peters has 370's and a #6 with a 14cm housing and dads is just as fast up to 80.

As far as i am concerned i like the 300's just a lil bit more low-end than the 215's but not as heavy up top like the 370's. all and all we are happy.

As I mentioned to Neil on the phone, the kit comes with the green O-rings, not copper washers.

This is news to me? This is the first time I have heard something different about the 300's

Here's a direct quote from the supplier of the 300HP injectors:

They utilize the offset automotive combustion chamber spray pattern to match exactly, your stock truck's spray pattern, and eliminate the chance of piston damage.

I'd ask for the Bosch part # for the 300 injectors, only ones I've found had a 155 spray angle, same as the 370's. 145 is the normal spray angle. The automotive or truck 5. 9 was only ever made in a 230hp, the 250 and up versions were all marine applications.
