Crawling Chairs!!!

Does anyone know who makes the "Best" electric tongue jack. I have a 25' Nash 25-S trailer, 560lb. tongue weight.

My truck is an '03, 3500 SRW, QC, Longbed. I also, have a 115gal. alum. diamondplate fuel tank in the bed of the truck. I often carry five 6gal. jugs of water in the bed of the truck.

BTW the trailer has a 50gal. fresh water tank in the front of the trailer, which, I keep full as possible while travelling.

The stock (Atwood) hand crank tongue is rated at 2000 lbs. and works well. Just a lot of cranking. Boy, am I getting spoiled!

With all the extra weight in the bed of the truck, I've been thinking of going with the heaviest elec. jack (3500lbs. ). But, it's $320. A local RV Parts dealer is selling a 3000lb. elec. jack for $189. Less than the 2500lb. for $240.

Do you guys think there is much difference, quality wise, in the different jacks. If so, which are the best?

Thanks for your opinions. Joe F. (Buffalo)

Which Elec. Jack do you have and what weight rating does it have? 2500, 3000, or 3500lbs? And, of course, HOW MUCH?

Thanks for your reply.

H&H High Torque Acme Power Jack 2500lb. Was installed on 27' Nomad 1/3/2000. Removed when we bought the 5th wheel 11/2001. $50. 00

If you can get the 3000 for less than the 2500 then go for it. I bought the 3500 for my Toyhauler when I had it and the tongue was about 1400# then... . No problems... Go for the cheaper one. I think they are pretty much all the same save for the weight rating.

The best tongue jack I've found is the Barker (H&H) Super Hi-Power Jack. It sells for $329. 00 at Camping World. It is rated at 3500 lbs and is a brute. Sorta the Cummins of tongue jacks!

They also have a 3000 lb Hi-Power Jack which is $229. 00 at CW. The problem with this jack is that the high and lo limits are controlled by a micro-switch. When installing, you have to syncronize the jack with the down stop on the jack. It seems to go out of sync about every three to four uses and then you begin to pop the 30 amp fuses when you hit the up/down stop. To prevent this, you need to resynchronize the jack which is a PITA.

The 3500 lb model has a clutch that will ratchet when the up/down stops are hit.

One thing to do also, is to make a cover for the head of the jack out of an old coffe can or something to keep moisture from getting into the motor and mechanism. I learned this the hard way and had to replace my first jack after about four years. Even though the head was "sealed" when I took it apart to fix it, water just gushed out.

Hope this helps!

One thing that you may want to consider is whether you can open your tailgate when you install a electric jack. On my 01 I could but now with my 04, with the same jack/trailer, I cant. Its a big pain !!
