I am looking into exhaust brakes and would like to find one which isn't real bulky or complicated , maybe electric activated rather than air , is there such a thing to fit an 05 ,stock turbo, 5" exhaust,, suggestions please

I suggest that you look at the Jacobs and PacBrake web sight... .

I offer a lot of the guys here the pacbrake and I think it has a few features... air powered with a simple electric compressor mounted to the engine... with a small air tank you can piggy back on the compressor and run air horns, or air bags...

The pacbrake will provide a full 60 psi of back pressure down to about 1300 to 1500 rpm... I'm now in Los Angles and brought down a trailer that weighs close to 20 K with my 04 dually. . above 17K lbs in trailer weight I have to use the service brakes on a 6% grade... . under the 17K magic number I put the truck in either 5th or 4th and turn on the brake... it connects to the ECM and comes on when the throttle goes back to the idle position...

If you have any other questions or wish pricing from me... drop me a note... I'm sure theres at least 100 guys here whos used us, and will support pacbrake... . but you need to make the choice that suits your needs...

I've got the Jacobs on mine. For the '03, I was told it was the only model that would not cause problems should I have warranty issues. I am happy with it. I pull heavy weight through the Colorado mountains, and I rarely have to use the truck brakes.

US GEARS decelerator is the only electric activated exhaust brake I know of. They mount down in the exhaust pipe, unfortunately the biggest pipe diameter is 4" but you could reduce down from 5", but that would mean a little restriction.

I have an 05 with a 4 spd auto and have been told by the ******* that I cant use a E brake.

Would this US Gear work on my truck?

I would like to install one but am concerned that the warrenty would be voided if I did.

I just put the jacobs on my 04 600 and have been happy with it so far (only 1000 miles on it). Great brakeing force in 4th and 5th. I choose the jacobs because I was told it is the same brake they use for the factory option on the 06's. It ties into the ecm also for the throttle postion part of it and also for engine warm up will sense when engine temps get up to 170ish and open the brake as to not work the engine if not needed but will come back on if temps drop down again.

Pacbrake does all that since it is also driven off of the computer with the exception of the factory option part. I just didn't want to deal with the extra complexity introduced by an engine driven vacuum pump and felt that an air source may come in handy later on.

I have a pacbrake PXRB on mine, works great, has retarding power down to 1600 rpm. Ditto on the engine warm-up, especially with the high idle when its cold... warms the truck up quick.

JHoffman,

Does the pacbrake auto open @ 1600 rpm?

RMachida,

I actually tried to go the other way since I already had onboard air with the air bags and stuff, but was going to cost about the same convert existing system.

Put me down for the Pac brake, I leave mine on all the time, I constantly have people tell me my brake lites are not working... . I'm not using them :-laf

The pacbrake stays on down to a complete stop. . it is run by the ECM... so both the pacbrake and jacobs will run the same. . the difference is that the pacbrake holds the same pressure as the jacobs but holds that pressure to a lower RPM thus more braking power through a lower RPM...

Hope this answered your question...

The question is still on my mind regarding the warrenty if I had the Pac or another E brake installed, I dont want to void the warrenty.

Iv got a 4 spd and from what I gather, most of y all are running manual shift.

Any comments??

I've never heard of any problems caused by any brand of brake but piece of mind is certainly worth something. We all know there's always some ignorant dealer out there that will blame a power steering leak or something else on a device he's never seen before.

All the brands offer good quality though - none are junk but if it helps you sleep, go with the Jacobs! :)

Not that it means to much because it seems that all the dealers across the US have there own approach to things but I had my truck in to the dealer friday for a shake in the drivetrain (45,000 miles) ended up being U joints and the carrier on the rear drive line and they covered everything under warranty and did a couple TSB's for me and was great about it.

They are all good ( except to old vaccum stryle pac brakes for 24v. I've had lots of problems with those) I drove an auto with a jaccobs the other day. Worked good. One precaution I would have with the jaccobs is I would buy a second serpentine belt when I bought the brake, because the added pulley would require a longer belt, and would be hard to get a part number for at a parts store unless you knew the length of belt. My boss rode in a new style pac brake and said it worked awesome. I'm told bd's are good. I have no experience with the banks brake. I have a decelerator to install on our 05, so far decelerators have worked well for us.

I have the B-D on my 05 dealer installed at purchase. I'm more then satisfied with the way it works. It works down to idle. I have the shifter mounted switch. My only minor complaint is it doesn't work with the cruise on, but on the plus side I can turn cruise off by turning the brake on. :)
