I've been looking and reading a little,,, what are you thoughts on the best Air Intake setup for the third gen 5. 9

turbo whistle is a must but I need cooler temps for running the smarty on #9 which i plan to do all the time unless i'm towing,,

Thanks

You are going to get alot of responsa to this question. I have an AFE Progaurd filter and intake with torque tube. It works awesome and is supposed to have the best filtration, I think. If I am wrong someone will most likely chime in. The turbo whistle is awesome, I pull a 41 foot gooseneck trailer and all I hear when it is hooked up is the whistle. My brother has a AEM Bruteforce intake on his 06 and I think that his may have more turbo whistle than mine but definitely a more high pitched than mine.

AFE is more expensive but I think it is the overall best intake in my personal opinion.

Amsoil

Amsoil has a very good filter (nanofiber) it costs $47 plus shipping but it lasts long. I got 577,000 miles on my wheels and very concerned about clean air, that is the cleanest one, with excelent air flow.

I purchased a drop in replacement amsoil nano-fiber one also. It doesn't pull the filter minder down like the stock one did.

The Wix drop in didn't pull the filter minder down either, but it wasn't a nano-fiber.

I've tried both (actually still have the factory one just in case I have to take the truck back in to the dealer).

AFE Stage 2 with a pro guard 7 filter. They sell them at genos garage. You want whistle, pull the silencer ring out of the turbo...

Afe Stage 2 with pro guard 7 filter all the way! Turbo Whistle is awsome! I got mine at DieselManor.

I also ordered the prefilter - AFE-28-10034 (Blue) Pre-Filter for 5. 9L TD fitting 75-10071, 75-10072, 75-10812, and 75-10932 Price $38. 66

It wasn't to bad to install and I love the sound the truck makes when you stick your ear down by the grill. You can hear the truck sucking in larges amounts of air. My fuel mileage also went up a little as long as I don't drive it like a race car. :D

thanks for the advise,,, i'm still looking but you guy's got me going in the right directions,,, now i just need to figure out how much i want to spend

AFE Stage 1 with the metal torque tube... although you'll have to make your own since I bought the last one. ;) Man I love the whistle! I wouldn't recommend removing the silencer ring. I'm still interested in these nano filters, since I hate having to oil the PG7... just need to figure out which one will fit in my AFE box...

I am a Wix fan, but yesterday I got one for an 06 and couldn't believe the difference between the stock one and the new Wix filter. Even the second Gen air filter by Wix is better than their new one. I counted the pleats in the stock one and it was more than 70 pleats with a pre filter. The Wix only had 47 pleats and no pre filter. Sent it back and went to the *******. Only paid $5 more at the ******* than at my reg parts store. Surprise!!!
