I've read most of the comments made on diesel fuel, which is good and which is not. I live in Washington D. C. /MD area. Looks like I'm limited to Exxon, Texaco,Mobile and a couple no names. I'll take the site's advice on the Texaco crap, what do we know about the other two????

New owner, my first fill up will be tonight.

The best thing to do is pick a place and fill up. Keep track of MPG manually. If you have a computer watch to see what it does. Leave the computer on ECO which averages you last 30 gallons. Then fill up at another station. Watch and see what your mileage does. If the fuel is equivalent, MPG will remain the same. Better fuel and mileage will go up and inferior... down. After several tanks, you'll narrow down where you buy fuel. Always try to buy at a place that has high turnover (truckstops or busy stations). There is a lot of difference in fuels out there and mileage will vary 2 to 3 mpg from mediocre to good fuel.

I'm with Drawson on this...
I have found in my area anyway, flying J is not only a good fuel from the constant use by the truckers, but is the lowest price too.
Most of the truck stops that are busy have good fuel. I avoid places like gas stations that have only one "car type" pump for diesel. can just imagine what their tanks look like!

I have always gotten poorer mileage when I fuel up at the Flying J at the Gretna, NE exit. I like their lower price, but with the lower mileage I don't think it is worth it. The last tank full has smoked real bad. I have gotten good fuel at the Petro truck stop at York, NE on I-80 and the Quick Trip Truck stop in Platte City, MO on I-29. Gene

I travel cross country regularly, Fly-n-J is the least expensive, and for my rig offers good milage + they go through lots-o-fuel. Check the web site for current fuel pricing, it can save a bunch, when you know how the cost per area.

My VW is more sensative to fuel quality than the Dodge, but both run the same on Texaco. BAD!

Good fuels that ran well in both:

Flying J. Good additive package, cetane of at least 42, always fresh, great price. I'd use it everytime if there was a FJ stop close to home or work.

Mobil (from truck stop) Good performance, decent price.

Sunoco Premium. If you can get it from busy station, it's good stuff. 45 cetane from the factory.

Exxon. Both ran well on it, but it was a bit pricey (That's what I get for putting off a fuel run).

Amoco Premier. The Holly Grail of fuel. 50 cetane. But you got to check the pump. Make sure it says "Premier" and has a cetane sticker on it, other wise you're gettiing something less. Makes any engine purr.

Thanks for the info, My first tank was exxon, 18. 7mpg, I'm running the second on Mobil. I think everyone agrees that Texaco is crap. Thanks for Amoco info, I have a couple stations in the area that I'll use.
