Best gear oil

2005 2500 with of course 9. 25 frt and 11. 5 rear AAM's. Getting ready to change the fluid for the first time at 15K. What is the BEST stuff out there to put in them? Cost is no object. Don't want to have any leak's either because of synthetics.

What do you mean by that? The diffs require full synthetic GL5, I have use Mobil 1 with no issues.

15K on syn already, came as new with it. I don't like the syn oil from D/C, as it is too expensive, so if you do find a good replacement let us know.

I saw some penzoil 80w-90 full synthetic on close out at the local walmart for about half price. I was thinking about picking some up even though I dont need it yet with 8k miles.



I would think any full synthetic gear oil of the right grade would hold up find in a axle application

LE stands for Lubrication Engineers. A well known person here turned me onto the stuff. 153k hard miles on my diffs, hauling heavy most of the time and no problems... ..... yet. I 'll try to post a link later, but look up Lubrication engineers, it should come up no problem.

If cost is no object I would look into Motul. Redline and Royal Purple are also very good. One advantage to Royal Purple is it's more commercially available so if you need some in a hurry you can go get it.

I run Red Line oil and have had no problem. I like the Red Line brand because they have 75W90 and 75W90ns (which has no friction modifiers added). The ns is what I run in my 2500 axles and my '92 Jeep axles/trans. As an aside, I noticed a huge difference (for the worse) when I ran 75W90 with friction modifiers in my Jeep trans. So the 75W90ns is my choice. Plus I get 4 x 1 gallons for $108. I priced Sta-lube petroleum 75W90 at NAPA and it was $29 for a gallon. Therefore, Red Line is a no brainer.
