In your folks opinion, what is the best gooseneck hitch for the money? The turnover ball, spring loaded, ect..... thanks in advance. Aloha

Gooseneck hitch

I've got CODY hitches in both trucks. it is made by QUICK HITCH,INC. , Greeley Colorado. it is a turnover ball type hitch which leaves the box floor free of obstructions when not in use. fairly simple install, only need to cut a 41/4" hole in bed floor and drill four 3/8" holes for the safety chains. another nice feature is it is a universal fit for a wide range of vehicles including the "other brands". a quality hitch and priced reasonably. the last one i bought in nov 2000 was $245 shipped direct from the company. not sure if they have a website. :D

B & W is pretty good.

B & W has been around with the turnover ball for almost 10 years. They have a very simple design (easy install) yet strong an reliable product.

Don't know if it is the best, but is darn close.

Drawtite

I have a Drawtite unit. It has two bars running along the bed. It takes both a gooseneck and fifthwheel hitch with the mounts.

Strong as a horse !!! Will pull well over it's rated capacity (yes, I know not to ... ). I think it was about $350 installed.

Hitch CHoice

I have a Buyer Hitch which has a "fold over" feature. It was very easy to install in that the frame holes actually lined up and the steel components were all top grade. It cost me $300. 00

complete with retracting safety chain loops.

They give you good instructions and an excellent template which was a good thing because the fold over types are actually installed a bit off center so that the ball is in the middle when upright.

They are available through most good RV shops.

My next choice would be Draw-tite, only because I have installed so many of them.

Happy Trails

I haven't had the chance to get a hitch put into my truck yet but after looking at the B&W, that's the one I'm going to go with also. Plus, I can also get the 5th wheel adapter, should the occasion ever arise to pull on of those.

Best gooseneck hitch??

We (meaning my brother the good welder of the family) installed our own.

Using the pattern from a friend who has a welding shop.

Welded a 1"thick 8" wide plate across the frame, over the axle, and trussed it in place with some square tubing.

A hole was drilled in the box where we wanted the ball, which we lined up with the hole we cut in the plate before welding it in place.

Dad has the same pickup I have, 3 weeks older and the 5 speed, long box, but we have identical hitches (go figure). Dad leaves his gooseneck ball in place full time, I unscrew mine when not in use, because of the short box and a perceived need for space.

I put down a rubber mat, and kept the piece I cut out for the ball. It fits in the original hole when the ball is out.

EDIT: forgot to add, my brother welded the nut for the gooseneck ball to the bottom of the plate, which is why I can unscrew the ball when I need to. Just smear it with antisieze before you screw it in.

I've been very happy with my B&W turnover ball. I've had no problems, and I don't know about competitors, but I think this hitch has a 35,000# horizontal and 7,500# vertical capacity.

Regards, JRG

Just installed a BW very easy to do good instructions. I love it,if you haven't decided yet I would go with this one. 35000# can't ask for more than that.
