I have read a lot of posts about injectors, and came to no conclusions... Most of the posts were a year or more old, so in the interest of seeing whats new though I would ask advice.

My application will be towing. I have about 300. 00, I know not much.

I found these on ebay, seems like they would do the job, what do you think??

Item number: 7912661001

A set of 6 new Bosch upgrade injectors for first generation Dodge Cummins 12v diesel trucks. 1991-1993. Installation kit included at no additional charge. These NEW BOSCH injectors come with a ONE YEAR WARRANTY

Installation of these injectors will result in:

40 to 50 more horsepower

Better fuel mileage

About 100 LB/FT.

any other suggestions?

I would strongly recommend getting a balanced set of injectors from a reputable shop. The e-bay injectors may be a good price, but face it, the pump and injectors are at the heart of diesel engine performance. If they are off a little, you can get smoke, rough idle, poor MPGs, etc, etc. So in the long run, you may not be better off. And then again, others have done fine with sticks from there.

$300 wont buy much for a 1st Gen in the way of injectors. How much power are you looking for in the end? You can add about 50-60hp by pump adjustments and airflow improvements, without buying new injectors. You can run into pump longevity issues if you use the extra power ALL THE TIME, but it takes x-number of ponies to pull a certain load acorss the flat, regardless of what is available. Accelerating and hills is where that comes into play. Dont use the power, and you wont stress the pump, and you'll have it when you want it.

Look into Bully Dog's 50hp injectors, PDR's Bosch 190s (NOT the 185 power wagons that doubled in price this past spring), and a few others. You may be ok with PODs, but they will smoke under a load. Some guys like towing with them, some dont. I like my EDMs, but they are a little out of your price range.

I wouldn't recommend the POD's for towing AND mileage personally..... even though I use those nozzles myself they are too much for the above application in my opinion.

Aim for the 190's as Daniel mentioned. They are a pretty clean injector, the give a good increase in performance and are smooth running nozzle.

Balanced nozzles are also important... you'd be surprised at some of the 'acceptable variance' on allegedly stock "new" injectors.

The HP value of 40-50 HP is a bit "odd".

I'm sure there are nozzles out there that will fall into that range. The POD injectors will be fairly close to the 50+ range... that's RWHP, not flywheel. If those on E-Bay fall in that range I'd be curious to know what application they are from because 'most' of the marketed nozzles are either below or above that value.

Either way, you can't go wrong with a mid range HP jump of 25-30 RWHP.

Those injectors work pretty well. I remember them making something like 20hp less than my honed out POD's. I cant remember how many L. P. M. they flow. I know that my basis for comparison is slightly skewed. They smoke a little less than stock POD's, and run quite smooth. They have four holes.

As far as how they would work in a towing application- It really depends on how heavy you tow, and how the pump is setup.

I plan on towing (truck trailer cargo) just under 26k some of the time short distances and around 20k most of the time.

Now if I understand you, I can turn my pump up, which will only have longevity issues when towing. but under normal driving the pump will not be stressed??

I will save for the right injector, my diesel smokes on start up and at 1500rpm up i can feel and here a miss. Most people here don't think its an engine problem but a bad injector.

So seems like the 190's are a good choice. I will concentrate on those for now. I will get some further details on those ebay injectors.

thanks

I watching you !! I also have lots of ???? about injectors !! I want upgrades also < mostley more power for towing < uphill ? let us (me ) know what you get <& how they work !! thanks loco one !

For what it's worth,

I e mailed a few questions a while back to that E bay seller and asked what numbers were on the injectors but he never replied.

You might be safer to just buy the 190s from Piers . . They were very helpful when i did my injector and gauges upgrade... ...

GMichaels... 20-26k is alot of weight for our trucks, I think the GCVW rating is like 12000 or sumthing like that... . I still use mine for towing about 25k, but i treat it like a baby and go VERY easy and wind up the engine big time. Having said all that, I'd be nervous about upping the power too much... . the extra get up an' go could put a heck of alot of stress on your powertrain if you use it too recklessly. All I'm saying is be careful :)

I had the exact same thing happen. Seems he doesn't want anyone to know exactly what injector they are gettign until they buy it. I bought else where.

I agree... the 185's were/are a nice nozzle. They always performed properly and made a nice improvement in HP being in the mid range increase... .

I refuse to pay the blackmail price. The 190's dyno'd a good 5 HP higher than the 185's so that's how the 190 rating came about.

185s can work quite nicely with nothing but a housing change. I was running 196 RWHP with max EGT of 1100. That was with a BHAF, 16cm housing, pump tweaked just a little, and the 185s.

I also could not get a reply from that same eBay seller. I did speak to someone at citydiesel that was selling "Power Wagon" injectors for $360/set. These were described to me as brand new Bosch 185 tips installed in used injector bodies.

If the e-Bayer gives out the numbers his gain is lost.

A bosch number can be had at any fuel injection shop in the US!

CGauthier-

I remember my 93 owner's amnual saying that with 4. 10s and a manual transmission, the GCVW was around 17500. Still a good deal shy of the 26K GMichaels is towing, though. It has been done, with no real ill effects. When I was haung hay, I had several loads top 22K. Went 65pmh, had adequate trailer brakes, my load was secure, and I didnt mash on the go pedal until I was in 4th gear, and then only if I had to go up a hill.

GMichaels- if you have a miss in your engine, it could be an injector. One bad stick can wreak all kinds of havoc on the performance of the engine. That is why I always say check the fuel system first. heck, my engine, which has hardly been babied, had hone marks in the cylinders at 255K. Head was within . 002" of flat.

Stay away from the hotter flowing injectors, and make sure you are getting air in/ exhaust out. A 16cm housing is the smallest I'd go.
