Any of you gearheads that tow have any recommendations for injectors? My rig is my daily driver and weekend tow truck. I tow a 38ft triple-axle gooseneck tipping the scales around 12000# loaded. My current mods consist of EZ w/ boost elbow, K&N, and gauges. EGTs are around 900max right now with this setup. It definitely has more towing power now but I feel the need for just a little bit more. My goal is to be able to run 70-75 without dropping off any whatsoever on hills and long uphill grades - save for Mt. Everest! I would prefer not to have a smokescreen behind me when I roll on the loud pedal. Future mods will be DTT VB & Converter as well as 4" exhaust. Leaning toward DD Stage I's or II's but those III's sure look tempting! #ad
: Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Although I don't have an auto, I think that you'll hear in short order that you will have to do the vb & tc before you add injectors to the ez. The consensus seems to be that the auto will have problems dealing with the ez and injectors. In any case, from the raves about DTT's vb & tc, the ez may have enough for you if you're getting it all to the ground.

Bent, the DD1's really run nice with the EZ, but it will torch your transmission if you do not upgrade first. I have not run injectors larger than DD1's with an EZ, but I think the smoke will be bad and EGT's will be a concern. The DD1's will give you about the same gain the EZ gave your stock truck.

The transmission is next on the Bomb to-do list BEFORE anything else. I can tell that the stock converter is already having a bit of a time handling the EZ. #ad

I would have to agree, you will need to upgrade your transmission,I recommend Bill Ks tc and vb.
I just had it done, and believe me you will love it,as far as injectors go I had the DD1s installed also,I run it will the VA box and boost module and boost elbow, and is a grea combo for towing,I hit about 35 psi boost, but egt is post turbo, and it runs about 600 to 750 is the highest ive seen it.

Iwould definitely get the DTT vb & tc installed before i do anything else,Once youve got a good solid base you can build up from there. Aside from being able to get your rig moving easier using less fuel, you,ll also have a lot more engine braking
available . Ijust have a little 21' Airstream which is fairly light compared to what most of you guys tow,but i was amazed how much less i had to use the brakes to make small adjustments to my speed after i got my vb & tc installed. Ilove my setup of DTT vb & tc,275,s & EZ. i think anything bigger than the 275,s or equivalant, you will sacrifice mileage for power. Just my 2c worth.

Bent6, since you already know you need to upgrade the transmission, no need in repeating the comments of others. The EZ and just about any injector will make a difference. EGT's are not too bad on some, worse on others.
Personally, I went from the 275's and the EZ to the DD2's and the EZ, and feel you don't want to go beyond that. EGT's will get up to 1200 Pre Turbo on a grade.
I like the DD2/EZ combination, it works very well in towing and unloaded conditions. You'd want to be very cautious in going beyond that and towing. Ask yourself how long do you want the transmission to last, even after putting in aftermarket mods. The DTT products are the way to go. But too much power and towing can be disastrous. There is such a thing as too much injector, especialy if towing heavy loads.

OK. Thanks for the input so far. The next upgrade WILL BE THE transmission - before anything else. The goal is to be able to tow the load like it's not back there (got to get to the racetrack on time!) and to have fun sucking the doors off the Powersmokes and Dura-Maxipads in the process. My BOMB plan is as follows:

Already have: K&N, EZ, Boost Elbow, Gauges
Step 2: DTT Converter and VB
Step 3: JRE 4" Exhaust
Step 3: DD Stage II Injectors
Step 4: Fuel line upgrades
Step 5: Poweredge Comp (switched off when towing - of course)
I feel this should be enough to tote the load with authority and kick some butt in the process. Does anyone have any personal experience with this setup and towing - smoke, egts, etc, etc?? How long could I expect a DTT transmission to last provided I don't abuse it (too much #ad

? Thanks in advance!

i have an eth with dd2's,ez and i just towed a 11k trailer up some big 6% grade hills from montana to spokane and i was able to do the speed limit up all three of the passes. i did have to let out of the throttle 3 to 4 times per hill. my egt's would hit 1300 and i would let off. i never had to downshift into 5th gear. #ad
i have the stock exhaust and air filter. i would recommend the dd2's and ez for heavy towing. you just have to be aware of egt's. with exhaust and a good air filter you would probably never have egt issues.

My recommendation (after the transmission upgrades) are DD2's unless you want to foot the bill for an HX-40 as well.

I found the EGTs with my EZ and DD3's to be acceptable at sea level, with some care. BUT, if you're going to be doing anything at altitude (above 3000'), then you'll need an HX-40. DD2's I'd think might allevieate this, though I can't say for sure. It's an educated guess.

I was able to pull a 6% grade at 65 mph just fine with my setup, but I was right on the edge with EGTs sitting at 1260 deg at about 2500-2800 RPM in 5th with overdrive engaged.

I MIGHT have been able to do it faster, but I had to slow from 75 before the grade; it had been my intention to do it at 75, but some idiot (east) Indian woman in a Volvo decided for no reason to slow to 55 in the middle lane despite nothing in front of her. Grrr.

The spray pattern of the DD2's will give lower EGTs than the DD1, or DD3. Ask Lawrence.

Go for the 275's. You will find that the MPG remains the same, but noticeably more go.

2000ney, that is an interesting post. With extrude-hone, how does Lawrence change the Spray Pattern? I assumed the holes only got larger as the fueling level went up!

Bent6, I have about the same set up you are going for, I had DDII's and egt's were too high, had to go back to 275's, and with the de-tuned PE it works great. (see my sig. )Just got back from trip to LA, delivered a 36' 5er, got 12. 5mpg going out and coming back empty, running on the EZ only, got 20. 5mpg. I was getting 29#boost w/EZ, 36#/PE #1, 39#/PE #2, & 41#/PE #3, too much jump from EZ to PE/#1. Had Brett detune PE so #1 puts out 33-34# and #2 where #1 was, and #3 is same as it was, now I can use #1 for towing sometimes, and #2 & 3 for playing, I really like it.
