best injectors?

i have a '92 w-250 4x4 ,auto ,113,000 miles thinking of replaceing injectors which ones are the best for power and MPG?

I have set of the lucas injectors in my 91 and love them. It was a noticable power increase compared to the power wagon injectors I had before. My milage is still the same as before with lucas injectors... . 19-20 mpg. In my opinion, I think the lucas injectors "ol blue specials" are the way to go.

I may be wrong, but I thought I remember someone posting that his milage went up when in installed a set of Power Wagon injectors.



Can anyone with PW injectors say whether that's true in their case?

i HAVE pw'S FOR NOW, NOT REALLY AN INCREASE IN MILAGE PER SAY, BUT POWER IS ALOT MORE THAN STOCK FOR SURE... . OF COURSE I'M HAVING THE OLD STOCK ONES SENT AWAY FOR EXTRUDE HONING TO GET THE "MOST POWER FOR YOUR $"... I WANT TO GET AS MUCH AS AT LEAST A DD3 OR SO... . WE'LL SEE

I have the Lucas injectors. I did notice the ABILITY to get better mileage. Up from 20 mpg to 22 mpg on the highway. However, if I am in stop and go (using the power) I see no increase in mpg. Depends on how often you use the power. I do have a noticeable swing in mpg in city and highway now.

I am also looking for some new injectors. I was thinking about both the PW injectors or the Ol' Blue Specials. Where are the best places to find them and about what do they cost?

I'd give Big Don a shout. He has done a lot of the leg work for the Lucas injectors and he usually has the best prices.

So which injectors give more fuel--PW or Lucas?



It's pretty hopeless doing a search, because everybody seems to have the word "injector" in their sigs.



(I wonder if we can convince the admins to set the search function to ignore sigs?)

Lucas or PW injectors?

No comparison. The lucas injectors are potentially worth

40 to 50 more horses than pw's. All depends on pump adjustment. Be aware that much heat will be produced and must

have a pyrometer. ( I have tried both injectors ) A search on lucas

injectors should bring up some dyno numbers also.

Folks, notice that those with Lucas injectors are non-intercooled (pre 91. 5) applications.



Anyone running Lucas injectors in a 91. 5-93? There is a reason for this, go with PW if you are intercooled, or go with Lucas if you are not.



Again, check with Big Don, or your vendor of choice, for the correct injector for your needs.



I'm personally running PW's in a 1992 intercooled. Very smooth, limited smoke, and good power. PW suggests these for that reason, you can get more power with a different injector for sure, but you will get more smoke at the same time.

Actually my 91 is intercooled and i'm running the lucas injectors. I had the pw injectors before I installed the lucas so I know how they both compare. The lucas injectors make alot more power then the pw's. If you are looking for the most power then I would give big don a call and get a set of ol' blue specials.

Hmmm... I noticed that most of you guys running bigger injectors either have a manual transmission or a beefed torque converter.



The main thing holding me back from getting a set of PW injectors (got a great offer from a fellow TDR member) is that I've still got a bone-stock, unmodified 518 automatic transmission.



I drive my truck pretty gently, but what I'd really like the new injectors for is when I need to pass someone. Would I be tearing up my transmission everytime I floored it at 50mph, accelerating to about 80?

Midnite is right on. If your going into the higher HP appl's. you better giver serious thought to transmission mods to handle the increased HP/Torque. Otherwise the power isn't going to make it all the way to the road. A transmission man of high regard told me that he has never seen a TC from our 1st Gen's fail (if i understood him correctly)When I was out to see him 2 weeks ago he was very hesitant to do a VB install without the converter or vica versa. One must go with the other to compliment each other. He passed up a sale to make sure I was looked after with good advice. I'll go back when I get all the $'s to do both.

I said this before but for those who are new: The PW's are NOT for the non-intercooled trucks. You will see a performance loss. For the non-intercooled trucks, the only choice are the Lucas injectors.

correct me if i am wrong but my understanding is that the pre91. 5 trucks non intercooled had injectors that we a little bigger than the powerwagons. Hence pump tweaking in these models makes a huge difference. but the injectors were larger in diameter i thinik 9mm as aposed to 7mm in later models which made the heads more prone to craking. The lucas injectors flow more than all first gen factory injectors so all first gens will see a noticable improvement. my questions is are the injectors for the 2 gen trucks different sized than ours, why can't we run 370's

I believe the reason we can't use 370's is because of the capability of the 1st Gen injection pumps and the P7100. I've heard we can use 215hp injectors but not too much performance improvement.

That kind of comparison may be tough to get. Having run both injectors, I know that I'm not putting in the PW's again! I was actually embarassed with the power loss. I have NEVER had to downshift the truck with the stock injectors and stock pump settings no matter what I was pulling. I had a heck of a time pulling a car trailer with an Isuzu Trooper II on the back. I had to downshift several times with the highest EGT of 900* pre-turbo. My father-in-law drives big-block gassers and I was feeling the pressure. The Lucas injectors have shown him the light. Or blocked the sun!

If the weather holds out, I'll be at the New England Drag way tomorrow night to see what I can do in the 1/4 mile to get an estimate of horsepower rating. I need to work on speed shifting. Can't let my buddy and his 2001 F-350 get me! I knew I shouldn't have told him I was going...
