Just because an intake horn gets all, BIG, like an expansion chamber, does that mean it flows more air?

Has there been a compairison, between, flow vs flow.

Or is it, this one looks like it would flow better!

For my $S, 3" to 3", seems like a good bet.

Had to edit the size, not sure what they really are.

I think there is a little bit of performance to be had in aftermarket intake horn, whether it be AFE, ATS, Hellmann Performance, or Banks(yuck)

a lot of folks are pretty happy with the ats and banks. i don't know much about the others. the banks messes up the dipstick tube.

i think as long as you get something that eliminates that little sliver of space that'd be tough to get cheezwiz through on the stocker, you're good to go.

from what i've read, there is another restriction in the lower portion of the intake plenum after the air horn we all replace. once you exceed the cfm of the lower restriction with a better horn, there isn't much more you can do.

consider your future mods. if you want to mount other things like bypass and fuel filter setups under the hood, the size of your air horn could limit your options.

also, some have auxiliary ports on em and some dont.

an expansion chamber could conceivably eliminate some heat but it'd be a negligable difference in performance.

good luck, j

had to edit all my spelling mistakes..... i think there's still a couple in there.

bling or no bling

That's the bottom line. they all do about the same as far as performance. I am thinking about getting the cfm air horn with ports drilled and tapped. carbon fiber appearance... !

i was just looking at the air horn from gdp. for the money, for the colors available... not bad plain and simple...

i just put one of those in my truck today. i'm pretty happy with it after one day of driving. i hit the road tomorrow for a couple days. i'll be paying attention to it.

CFM+ nice unit , friend of mine's company. I watched the flow bench runs with the ATS , Banks , stock and his. Representation of the graph on his website is accurate. It does lower EGT temps and a little faster spool up

The bling factor is definatelt right. I don't think the aftermarket horns can do anything for performance. Pretty much their only purpose is so you can pop the hood and say, WOW, Looky what I got. About like the laramie package in my mega cab. Sunroof , electric back glass, adjustible pedals. Just so I can say to my friends, looky what I got. But I have ran Banks, ATS, AFE, CFM+ and a custom(homemade) one for an old 12 valve. I've never noticed any difference in any of them performance wise. CFM+ is my favorite just because its the coolest looking and cheaper than most. And it weighs like 0. I am currently running it.

I was hoping to get my turbo to spool, quicker/easier.

By changing the cast elbow off my turbo from stock to an "05" elbow, and my intake from an AFE stage 1, to what's in my sig, has helped.

From what I have looked at, they are all $300. 00+.

Richards, appears to be the only one that maintains the same size through the horn, just trying to justify/prove, that the expansion/air vanes, really help in that short of a distance.

Thanks for the replies! Jess

I have the GDP horn, VERY NICE piece. It was easy to install, 15-20 minutes. I do think you get a slightly faster spool-up, or at least that's what I am feeling throttle wise, but what I noticed the most immediately, was a drop in EGT's. I chose the GP unit because it appeared to be efficient in the flow and did not take up additional space that would be needed for installing the PacBrake compressor. I also have the 2-micron GDP fuel filter, it also was/has the setup for it's mounting. So to me in the overall it is a win-win aftermarket part. Looks good, function should be improved over stock, does not cause an interference problem to other aftermarket installs.

So you have a Pac-Brake? I'm installing one right this minute (on a little break). I think I'll go with the GDP over the AFE due to space restrictions, plus I like the simplicity of the GDP.

Just ordered the GDP, $249. 00, can't beat that!

I picked the hammered silver, looks like it will be a fairly close match to my AEM Workhorse tube.

Thanks again for all the input. Jess

that new afe one has caught my eye. . need to wait for a stellar deal before i jump on it. . the gdp one is practical, and reasonable priced. . just doesn't look as fancy

At the baytown drag n pull, i saw a nice one from bd polished . I believe the guy from geno's garage owned the dodge with the air horn. i must admit that before that... i did not give a second thought but afterwards that horn did look cool. more impresive than looking at it from the magazine.

JDCleary.

No, I do not have a PacBrake installed yet. It is the next thing I am adding to my truck, planning on getting/installing one sometime next month.

I have the CFM+. I’ve had it for a few weeks now but could not swear of any performance/mileage gains. However, the “bling” affect is priceless. :-laf

nice pic brother

i spent about 5 hours in my truck today and i really believe i'm getting a quicker spool which i previously noticed after a short test run when i put on my intake horn. what got my attention today was when operating above 2000rpm, seems like i have a stronger pull when accelerating... ... .

i had occured to me the truck is just still breaking in though. only 14k on the odometer. could be a coincedence that she's loosening up a bit just as i put on the horn.

It would make sense for it to make your truck perform better. It flows better. . better flow means more air. However small the increase of performance is it's still there. I'm thinking about making my own in my welding/machining classes. Should be a fun undertaking I'm hoping.
