What is the best lift kit for the ctd?I think I wont a 4" but not sure which on to get. Lots of different options and a lot say "Except Cummins Diesel". Has anyone had any trouble getting theres on?Oo.
Well, it depends on what you are hoping for out of your lift. Is this mostly for looks? Tire clearance? Performance?
If you want performance, the T-rex system is hands-down the best. It only "lifts" the front by a small amount, but you can take severe washboard at 80mph! It is simply the best money can buy
If you want a higher lift (4" or more) I am pretty sure that the Dick Cepek kit has no equal. Check it out here.
Remember, the higher you lift the truck, the less performance potential you have... ... .
I agree with Hohn. If you do a search for "My race suspension is here!!!", the guy from T-Rex gives a LOT of very good information. I installed the T-Rex kit and had him drive my truck at DEPO last month. Kent is a racer at heart and you should have seen his expression when he drove a bombed truck!!! BUT he's not going to bomb the T-Rex beastie because there is only so much torque/hp that a dirt road can handle, and his '03 is posting faster times un-bombed than many of the percolating racers. THATS what suspension can do, at only 2. 5" lift.
Please do the search. Kent does a good job explaining suspension, whether it's a lift you want or true performance.
T-REX system is only a leveling kit if you're thinking about lifts--2" lift in front that levels the truck--they don't believe in lifting trucks anymore than that--why??-- cuz it's hard to get accomplished what their current system does if you go higher----chris
I'd also do Cepek if I was going to do it again--I've been hacking up my 5" skyjacker to have longer arms and a little more lift--sure taking a long time when you don't work on it though---the T-Rex system is pretty much a race setup system--I'd have to believe it would work pretty good in a lot of 4 wheeling situations also, but it you need or want more clearance you don't get it with the T-Rex--this is not a slam on T-Rex--they have a pretty awesome setup IMO for what it's to do---chris
xcumminsx, I didn't either! This thread on the T-Rex is a long one and is full of suspension theory that I never knew existed. You have probably driven a dirt bike with a long travel suspension. The King Shocks that are in the T-Rex kit are like the shocks on an off road bike- they have ~ 5-6" of travel that allow the suspension to absorbe shocks rather than your... anatomy, yielding a floating in-control feeling that boosts speed by keeping your tires in contact with the gound. I must tell you up front, that I wasn't in the lift market when I got the T-Rex, and I don't know the specs. on the other suspension providers. Dick Cepek has been around since the dirt was warm, and provides a top knotch product. If a lifted truck is what's important to you, go with it. These trucks look awsome when jacked up. I have short legs and can't get my fat butt that high in the air anymore.
The trex kit will only allow you to go faster in offroad conditions because it will do a better job of keeping the tires on the road. It will make almost zero differance on pavement. just make sure what ever kit you get that the control arm angle isn't going to be too steep or you will have a harsh and crappy ride. Seeing as how your looking at a 6" kit, the bigger tires you will probably be putting on will kill your pavement performance more than anything else will.
