Guys,

Big Don again on the '00 upgrades. Gotta remeber I am used to foolin' with the 1st gen trucks.

I am looking for a gage setup that has boost (preferably 50psi gage) pyrometer (been using Isspro with good luck) and would like a fuel pressure gage 0-15psi with sending unit to mount under hood and run wires into cab for gage. I would like some very nice looking gages, preferably something to match the factor gages in the truck or compliment them nicely. I am leaning towards the full pillar replacement to hold three gages.

Im would greatly appreciate any info or pics you may have along with part#'s. Feel free to email me.

One last question, how do I update my signature???

thanks

Don

Can't help you with "gages" but...

Don,

Take a look at the Westach gauges from Geno's. They sell a "high output" combo EGT/Boost gauge that goes to 50psi. Then you can fill the second hole with a Westach fuel pressure gauge (electrical in cab). That way you have one more hole avalible for another gauge of your choice... :D :D :D

Here's the Geno page: http://216.167.98.200/CoastalData/showprod.cfm?&DID=30&CATID=1&ObjectGroup_ID=4

For the sig update go to "user cp" then "edit profile"... ;)

big Don:D you sure don't waste time adding things to your truck I just ordered the westach combo from Geno's about five minutes' ago for mine and it comes in a high output temp 0 to 1500 and boost 0 to 50psi can't wait for it to get here:) :D Don Barr

Isspro EV Marine

Don,

Just got my Isspro EV Marine EGT, Boost & Trans Temp gauges yesterday from Andy at Advanced Diesel Technology. They are beauts!! White faces with convex lenses, chromed brass bezels lighted thru with blue backlight. They don't match my factory gauges but I'm not overly impressed with the OEM looks anyway.

Hoping to get them installed by the weekend. I'll post a picture when there in.

I am still lookin'. I do not like the "two gages in one"setup. The needles are at such an angle that I do not feel either of them are very accurate. I am not sure how to read the dual needle setup. The way the needle crosses the tick marks seems to leave alot for interpretation. Just my 2 cents worth. I am also not a big fan of pillar mount setups due to the blind spot they create. I have a 2 gage dashmount (mounts in drivers side croner of dash) in my 99. I like it as it is pretty low profile. I will probably end up with a pilar mount just so I can get three gages in it or maybe a dashmount for 2 of them and a column mount for the third gage (pyro, boost and fuel pressure). Thanks for the help, let's here more and then I will be comfortable ordering.

thanks

Don

I'm in the process of getting a set of new gauges also. After reading about the Autometer FOGGING problem I think I'll steer clear.

Big Don - I have the 3 gauge full pillar setup and in my opinion it does not obstruct the view at all.

margil - I have the autometers and have never had a fogging problem. I live in southern Arizona though, not much moisture down here.

One modification I plan to make is a small switch to turn off the gauge lights for those long all night interstate cruises when the gauges aren't required.

Scott, I live on the TX gulf coast humidity done here can get high. Maybe it doesn't matter what kind of gauges I buy the fogging problem could possibly occur regardless of brand. thanks for the input. I just can't get enough of this TDR - learning so much !!

Gauges

I have the Autometer Z-series 0 - 1600 deg. F pyrometer and 0 - 60 psig boost pressure gauge. The street series thermocouple I mounted pre-turbo and the boost pressure tap I mounted in the square 180 return that bolts on top of the toaster. No big temp lag or pulsation problems. The green bulb covers come close to the dash on my 98. 5. I have enclosed a picture.

The gauges, pillar and probe kit I purchased at Martel brothers racing in Katy, TX for around $250. 00. To paint the pillar, I went to a local auto paint dealer and bought some 3M interior paint (in an aerosol can) that matched very close. I prepped the pillar by wiping it with Urethane reducer to remove any grease and soften the surface a little. Came out looking just like the rest of the d**n plastic in the cab (I wish they would use a little more sheet metal).

Margil,

I live 50mi West of (and work in) Houston, TX. No fog problems in the two months they have been in (even when I was working offshore in Venice, LA last week). Time will tell.

gauges

Isspro EV's (non marine). love 'em so far. probe pre and post turbo. DP/DT switch by the EGT gauge switches between the two.

picture

sorry about the pic. sometimes i have trouble submitting pix when the 'net is busy... ... ... :( bottomn gauge is a 0-60 boost. FP in the middle is 0-30. .

Have you considered going Digital ?

SPA has sone new gauges with different lighting schemes. I think you will be able to change the color and intensity of the lighting.

I like the Di-Pricol gauges. There best for night viewing and match the factory gauges. You can also find them at Genoes Garage. There friendly folks, and whatever you buy they will stand behind there products. The only draw back ( unless they have come out with a new one ) is the boost only reads up to 30 psi. My 2c

Give them a call!!!

TDR issue 34

The TDR mag has a real good article on gauges and how they performed.

I too think the Apiller is big enough as it is and don't need to grow. I am going with the 3 pod mount that sits mid dash. It has not been deliver yet from Geno's (ordered 3 Dec). I have EGT, boost and fuel pressure gauges waiting to go in.

I am not bashing the pillar mounts, I just don't like them.

As a good friend of mine says " That is why then make chocolate and vanilla ice cream".

Hope this helps

See Ya

Chris

Guys, after all the research and reading articles I have decided to go with the Isspro EV series colorcoded pyro and 40 psi manifold pressure gage. I have had great luck with Isspro's in the past. I read the article in the TDr and I too am confused as to why a pyrometer needs an electrical signal to work. I am still looking for a good fuel pressure gage (one with an electrical sending unit as I do not want a mechanical gage in the cab for fear of fuel leaks).

thanks
