Best overall shock for ride comfort ? Any suggestions? 05 Ram 4x4

My 2005 Ram 2500 4x4 has standard suspension with no lift kit . I am all stock except for my LT285/70r17 BFG a/t tires. I am looking for a replacement shock that will yield better ride comfort. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck with bilstein pn f4-be5-6681-h5 or f4-be5-c604-h0.

Well I saw that everyone was ignoring you so I thought I would at least post something. My 07 is lifted and has Pro Comp adjustable shocks. Rides kind of rough but not bad! Hope someone gives you some insite. I hear that 4wheelonline has a killer deal on shocks right now.

If you are looking for a more comfortable ride... . maybe the shocks aren't the problem. I installed some Rancho gas charged 5000's on my truck & it didn't make much difference in overall ride quality. The springs in these trucks are made to haul the heavy cummins engine & not bottom out the shocks. The stiffer springs are more "bouncy" because they have so much extra tension to support the added weight. Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done with the springs in heavy duty applications. If you did put softer springs in & hit a bump hard... . The cummins is so heavy that it would bottom out the shocks. When these trucks were designed... They were setup to provide the best ride quality available. I don't think that a set of shocks is gonna make much difference in ride quality in your application, but I may be wrong. Just my opinion... Good Luck

I agree with cummins724. I put Bilstiens on the front and Rancho9000's on the rear for adjustability. I thought I could adjust for hauling my fifthwheel and when empty. Doesn't matter what the setting, when empty, it rides like a truck... period.

Im thinking that an upgraded shock will dampen the on going bounce - da da - da -da after i go over a small bump in the road . I would like to feel it one time not 5.

My truck rides great

I installed Rancho 9000's some miles ago on the '03. They were not as good as factory shocks but when haulin or road change or temp change I could stop and adjust. The stoppin was a pain and I could get close to good but never any real banana. About a month ago I installed the in cab controller. WOW, the wife says the truck feels like it's on a cushion and that is no joke.

The controller changes the shocks from 9 position to 0-100%, adjustable anywhere within the range and fine tunable for a wiz bang smoooooth ride, and I mean smooth. It was a deal installing, planning, getting through the firewall, figuring out where everything needed to be, I sheathed all the tubing in another tube for protection but we are really, really happy with the ride especially when empty. The ripples and thump thump cracks down the highway are no more. I don't adjust tire pressures up and down for load anymore only for ambient air temp. changes, I adjust the shocks and keep the tires pressured up. Wish I'd installed the controller in the beginning.

I installed Sean's mini-spring pack to replace the stock overload leaf... as is a 1 inch thick piece of steel could be called a leaf. The mini-pack with my Edelbrock shocks provide a MUCH smoother ride.

on my truck, the rancho 9000's at the softest setting was still more harsh than the stock shocks. I added a leveling spacer at the same time, so that probably didn't help any either.

Well thanks to everyone at TDR, I appreciate the insight. I got done tonight installing the Bilstein BE5-6647-H1 AND BE5-6681-H5 front and rear shocks. It was pretty easy to do except for the shock near the silverbullet 66, that one was a little more time consuming because of the area to work in.



So far my results are : Truck rides stiff but atleast I hit the bump one time, not three !!



When cornering the truck has less sway. I noticed right off that the bilsteins took alot more force to press them down than the stock units with only 14,000 miles on them and also the rate of return was a lot quicker on the bilsteins than the stock red shocks.
