intercooler?

OMG! Someone is selling their Insite!!!

I don't want to pay a shop to install a flow thru muffler on my stock 04. 5.

I already have the 4 inch exhaust.

I plan on cutting off the stock muffler and welding on my own.

any thoughts would be appreciated.

If you want cheap performance, consider gutting the stock muffler and putting it back on. It can be made to flow like a straight pipe without the noise. I'll send you instructions if you are interrested.

is that Nelson 4" the 51 inch long model I have been reading about?

I am really aiming to that one and keep the stocker in the barn just incase momma starts pissin & moanin.

Just installed the Nelson (part # is temporarily MIA) in dad's '03 a couple days ago. Sounds AWESOME. Not hardly noticeable in cab and nice and deep outside. He bought his truck used with a straight thru kit and we added in a straight (type 1) muffler. It will not work on 04. 5's because there is no offset. Not sure what 03's have from factory, offset or not. Nelson doesn't make an offset muffler that is 51" long, and the shorter ones will be too loud for me.

We originally wanted a Donaldson, but they're more expensive and harder to find around here. Nelson was around $60 (local Furd Heavy Truck dealer) and is comparable to Donaldson's #M090544, which is recommended in another thread.

I'll try and post the part # for the Nelson that we put on Dad's, if he can ever find the slip.

Next dumb question...

Now that I have crawled under my truck and actually looked I have an offset factory muffler.

Do I install a straight thrugh muffler and add a bit of pipe to the downturn of the exhaust pipe just after the muffler to make it all fit or do I try something else ??

Mark,

sure wish I could open one of the install instructions available on websites for the system you describe so I can see better what your describing. Is there a chance you could e-mail them to me? I'm very curious to look at something. I'm still in process of trade/sell on my 04. 5 I'll call you when finished. Are the 05's the same. The factory exhaust is 409 ss huh? Interesting.

To those of you who want instructions on how to gut a muffler, please send me your e-mail address in a personal message. I have the instructions on my e-mail program and have no idea how to get them onto the site without typing them again. I will send you the instructions.

The best setup is the aeroturbine with a custom made s pipe my kit comes with hangers and clamps for complete install and you won't have any annoying drone like you will get with almost all high flo mufflers with some exception for the Donaldson 51" it seems to have the least drone out of the high flo mufflers I have these kits ready to ship give me a call for pricing. This setup has been very successful and are selling fast.

Steve -- please send me instructions for gutting the muffler & if you have any info on gutting the cat I would also be interested in that. I have a 04. 5 3500 and want to free up my exhaust but keep the factory tailpipe as I have a welded extension that just clears my mudflaps. Thanks, Rod
