Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Best place to puchase VP44?

Well dads 01' needs a VP44. Where is the best place to get one? I haven't checked yet, but has anyone every rebuilt one themselves? I'm sure a Bosch rebuild kit is a lot cheaper than the whole pump, but it's probably a lot easier just to buy one ready to go. Since we're going to put the pump on, is there anything else we need to do besides a fuel pressure gauge? And is there any tips or tricks to the pump install. Any help is appreciated. I'm sure all of these questions have been answered, but like I said in my other thread, dial up sucks!!

Well, as far as I know, you can't rebuild one due to the testing and/or replacement of the computer module mounted on the top of the pump. One would need special tools and a test bench of some sort.



I purchased my VP44 from this place: Diesel performance parts and accessories. Diesel injectors, pumps, filters, kits, additive, gauges and apparel. They don't require a core charge on the FRONT side - you have 30 days to return the core before they charge you. The shipping back is paid for too. I paid $1,050 plus shipping to my house.



I have heard good things about this guy: Diesel Performance Specialists, VP44, 47RH, 47RE, Cummins Diesel Performance He's suppose to use new computer module that was built by Bosch for FedEx trucks. I would have probably bought one from him if I hadn't had the other from Midwest enrout to my house. I think Bluechip's price is around $1,600 dollars plus core and shipping.

Thanks Alaskan. I had actually found MWFI yesterday while looking. The second guy sounds pretty tempting also. He has the special x vp44 which sounds good for $300 more. Will call today and maybe spend some money.

If that Special X you are refering too is from Blue Chip, I bought one and have no regrets about spending the extra money. I have also done business with mwfi (turbo, injectors) and they will continue to be on my prefered supplier list.

If I remember right all authorized Bosch rebuilders have to use the updated parts when rebuilding (the fedex upgrade)...

I have bought two from MWFI and will continue to go back to them, great price, great services and got it quick... even comes with a pre-paid return label for the core.

You will need to either buy, borrow or build a gear puller... I installed one, wasnt that bad, somewhere there is a thread on here that step by step describes the procedure including tools needed...

I got the pump gear puller from Industrial Injection, they were great to deal with also.

and yep, dial up sucks... we used to just stop by a hotel somewhere and borrow a little of their high speed

He parked the truck and is driving his Jeep till he decides, but I think he's going with the Blue Chip Special X. You can get the MWFI with a FASS for $300 cheaper, so he may end up with that one too?? Thanks for the help and suggestions. As we get one put in, I'll keep you posted.

If you don't have one, I would highly recommend that you install either a fuel pressure guage, or the low pressure warning light. I have the light on my '01 , it's a great way to know that you have fuel at your VP-44, great peace of mind.

I'm still on my first pump, but if I ever have to replace it, I will definitely no doubt about it buy one from Blue Chip.

While I am quite pleased with my Blue Chip VP44 "FedEx special" that now has 3 years & 247,000 miles I would not hesitate to buy one from any of several shops. In fact, I have and installed them on customer trucks. They all use the latest greatest releases from Bosch because that is who supplies the parts. The parts are the same but some folks are more careful with their work. There would be places I wouldn't buy from...
