Best place to tap for CB radio power.

Finally broke down and got a CB. Where is the best place to tap to power the thing? It has a fuse, should I install a circuit breaker or something?

I used the power seat circuit since I don't have that option. 20amps and already routed under the seat.

I got the Brolin mount and want to use the power from the electric seats in my truck as well. I'd read a while back of someone doing this.



Anybody know which wire to tap, and if in fact this is a safe and effective source of power (enough to power both the seat and cb)? I like the "constant hot" of the seat wire to be able to run the cb with the truck/acc. off.

Painless wiring kit is best way to go. I have wired CB, Lights, etc. into the Painless wiring panel. Would not do it any other way. Have tried other methods and found this to be the best.

Thanks all for the suggestions. I use the spare fuse #16 in the cab. I got one of those blade type things that plug in beside a fuse at Radio Shack. Got a 5 amp fuse and plugged it in on the fused side of the circuit. This an accessory power source. The red wire w/ a lt. blue tracer is the constant hot under the seat. I use this for the 'memory' power to the CB. Now, all I have to do is figure out how to fine tune this thing.

What'd you mean by the power seat wire being the "memory power" to the cb? Is the constant hot (red w/ lt. blue) wire not enough to run the cb alone?

I have a Painless Wiring kit in my truck,but I didn't power my CB from it. Instead I powered my CB from the 'power outlet' circut in the dash because it is a constant 'on' circut. I wanted to be able to turn the CB on without having to turn the key on.

On my CB, there is a wire to a constant hot source so that when you turn the cb on it remebers the last channel that you were on. But to answer your question, yes the red/lt. blue under the seat is more than suficient to run a CB. Mine only had a inline 2 amp fuse. If you don't have power seats you will need to get a 20amp circuit breaker to go in the #21 space in the fuse panel. I didn't need my cb to be on a constant hot source.
