help with DisneyWorld vacation

Thinking of moving out there and buying a home with some land (no more than 5 achers, no less than 1). Will be able to get a transfer with my company. I'm planning to visit for the 1st time next week to check things out and would like some of your input on some nice areas to look at. Any input/advise you have would be appreciated ;)

Send TDR member Hyde a Private Message. He lives in the Dallas area and has some acreage with enough space for a shop. He may know of something available in his area.

Your choices are limited to some extent by where you will be working, if you move in way on the other side of town you will need a couple of cases of Mylanta to deal with the commute-induced heartburn.

That being said, I'd recommend heading to one of the smaller towns outside of Dallas proper, you can get a reasonable commute and there are some NICE places to live.

North: Nice little towns abound if you are willing to drive, like Pilot Point and Celina. Closer in are some of the higher-tone communities like The Colony,

Northeast side: Greenville is mighty nice, but about 40 miles out. Closer in along the same roads is Rockwall, right there close to the lake.

South side: Red Oak/Midlothian area used to be nice, Waxahachie also.

West side: Not much but endless suburb and pavement from Dallas to Weatherford, Fort Worth-Arlington-Dallas have become one big sprawling city. If you like living in suburbs, there are some nice ones but if you want 5 acres and country atmosphere while still working in Dallas, the West side presents a pretty stiff challenge.

Thanks for the replies. Eaither of you know much about the Azle area? Looks like they have some nice homes with 1-2 acher lots. Work would probable be in Ft Worth or Bedford. How would that commute be?

Yes, there are some additions in the Azle area that have homes on acreage.

Azle would be a fairly easy commute to Fort Worth or Bedford; however, could be a real pain if you worked in some areas of Dallas.

My sis built a nice home in Haslet on 1 acre. It's right off I35 and makes Fort Worth an easy commute. I used to live in the Bedford area about 10 yrs ago. The entire north fort worth suburb is very nice and affordable. Have you checked west, like weatherford and Aledo. The commutes are rough pretty much anywhere you go, IMO. I left 10 yrs ago and when I go back it amazes how that place can sustain such growth for so long.

I say McKinney. Its beautiful. Its also the quickest growing city in the us.

We lived there for nearly 20 years when it was still a small town. Every time I go back to visit relatives, I give thanks we left when we did.

Just make sure to get enough land to put cows on, and you can get an ag exemption from paying property taxes... something like that, if you have a chunk of land and put animals on it, it saves you $$$. . Just something to think about!

Thanks guys. Just got back from a tour of DFW area. Looks like the mini-mansion in Keller is the way to go. Will have enough side yard to park the trailer. Big driveway for both my trucks. Will have to sell the Jeep though. Now I just need to get the job transfer. BTW, DFW area is huge! I had no idea

Ha! tell me about it Bill. Father-in-law bought 70 acres up north in Grayson county and just finished building a new house. He's wanting us to build and move up there also. It sure is nice and quite, he's got some of that acreage for sale right off 75. I sure been thinking about it. :D

Check zoning restrictions to make sure he trailer can go where you want it.

There are about 6 million people in the DFW metromess.

It would just be a small trailer to haul quads with. I think i will be able to hide it out of sight. The homeowners association unfortunatley very strict but thats the tradeoff of living in the subdivisions.

I've got a development going on the far north end of McKinney, almost to Melissa. I'm building a house in there myself. Check www.pblp.com for info. Click on "Realtors", click on "Lots" and then click on Paradise Ranch.

Those are very nice lots. Unfortunatley they are out of my price range. If they sold for half the price i would be on it in a heartbeat, as would everyone else ;) . Thanks for the info!

Well its official, I got the job transfer along with a nice salary increase :D

Looks like were are moving July 30th to Keller. It should be a nice 3 day drive with my 04. 5 pulling my 01 through the desert. Can't wait to get out there.

Maybe a bit early, but let me be the first: WELCOME TO TEXAS

Now go buy a cowboy hat, a George Strait, Clint Black, or Bob Wills CD, and start practicing saying "Ya'll"

Remember, there's an entrance exam when you cross the border! :D :-laf :-laf

Maybe you can make it to the August meeting of the Big D Dodge Diesel Club. Keep an eye out in the event section for details.

Thanks for the welcome Ya'll. I think it will take me few years to actually say it to someone. Thats about the only difference I noticed about Texas was the accent. The part of California I am from is very simular in many ways so it wont be too different. I do like the fact that there arnt too many Libs dominating the political sceen out there like here. Just can't wait to get out there! P. S if that boarder test is administered by the boarder patrol, i'm sure i can pass right by without a problem. :-laf
