Best price I ever saw for an exhaust brake was the Pacbrake sold by Campingworld.com. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Bought my Pac Brake PRXB from Jim at Pacific Clutch and Brake (he's Jelag here on the board) for $899 with no shipping or tax.

Thanks Jim.

How tuff is it to install a Pacbrake PRBX on an '03 4X4, HO, 6-sp. ?

I've installed guages, including drilling & tapping for the pyro, box, AFE System, running boards, Mag-Hytec cover, etc. However, I do not consider myself a mechanic. Never did a valve adjustment or got inside an engine or trans.

With my background, could I install a Pacbrake or should I have someone with greater skills do it?

Thanks.

I installed mine in about 3 hours by myself going v e r y slowly (if I had to do it again, I could do it in half the time). The instructions were very good (you can pull them right off of Pac Brakes website at http://www.pacbrake.com/products.php?item=Exhaust_Brakes/Dodge_Turbo_Diesel/__Manuals.html)

1. Mount the brake - requires you to remove the cast elbow - 2 clamps

2. Mount the compressor (goes right on top of the intake (four bolts I think)

3. Plumb the compressor and brake

4. Wire the switch and compressor (basically plug everthying in).

Seriously, it's not that hard an install and if you've done gages, this shouldn't be any harder.

Two Guys Garage just did an install of the Pacbrake. Check the Pacbrake website for reruns. Has anyone installed an inline exhaust brake? Thinking of possible turbo upgrades in the future.

I'm not real familiar with exhaust brakes, but how do you install if the cast iron elbow

mentioned in step one of a previous post has already been replaced with a turbo back

exhaust?

Most turbo back exhausts actaully bolt up to the cast elbow. I think one or two make an entirely new downpipe that bolts up to the turbo. My "turbo back" MBRP bolts right up to the brake (where the cast elbow used to be)

I bought mine from Cummins. Here in the NE Cummins has a club you can join called "power masters" Other areas have a club with a different name. I think it was around $15. 00 to join. Membership gives you 10% discount on Cummins parts. Using this 10% off, Mine was just over $1000. 00. (plus tax)

Swift Dodge in Sacramento has a smokin deal on the 06 Mopar brake kit, PN 82209823. They list for $1325 and net is $990. He will sell what he has remaining in stock (he had 12 left when I got mine) for $1040 plus tax. Ask for the parts manager Phil Kreutzer for this deal. Tell him you saw it on TDR. 800 554-8500

I am seriously concidering an exhaust brake. I'd like to know how difficult they are to install on an '06. I'd also like opinions, I pull a 40' cargo trailer all over the country sometimes pretty heavy. Trailer brakes never have seemed to do to much and I'm conctently fixing them. Now there getting $150 per brake plate and I have a triple axle trailer. I'm thinking of concentrating on the truck stopping the trailer rather then relying on electric trailer brakes that don't seem to be much help no matter what you do... ... Opinions please!!

Pac Brake Problem

The exhaust brakes Compressor motor died after 2 years of very light use. I e-mailed them ,and left my number on their voice mail. No one has ever called or mailed me back. Its probably not warranted ,but it seems their customer service is to ignore you?

I can replace the compressor with another manufacture, no problem. But if this is how they run their business I would definitely suggest going with another company if I was thinking of buying an exhaust brake.
