I think I am going to have to replace my injector pump. Am getting a dead pedal sometimes,(seems to be worse when under light load and throttle conditions) I can slightly get off the throttle, then back on and it's ok. Still pulls my trailer well and has plenty of power under load. No excess Smoke. Fuel pressure is 16 idle, 11 under load. Have reset the APPS once. Yes I have the dreaded code. My questions are these 1# will it hurt to drive it in this condition (yes I know it could quit and leave me stranded) #2 where is the best price on VP-44s.

No I am not going to tap the wire. My truck is a stock auto with 150,000 plus miles. Do not have the funds for transmission upgrades. By the way I have had zero problems with my transmission in stock form at stock power. I tow a 10,000 lb plus horse trailer on a regular basis and the only work done to the auto trans has been yearly fluid and filter changes & band adjustments. Just looking for a quality reman pump. Thanks

I drove mine like that for at least 20,000 miles until it got dangerous getting on the freeway. No harm done. You definitely want to get a pusher pump or the in tank conversion. I had good pressures with my lift pump the whole time. I was quoted $975 for a reman VP44 from cumminstuff.com.

Thanks Nevadabackroader. Most drivers would not realize there was any problem with the truck. I put 50 to 60 thousand miles a year on this truck and was planning to install a pusher setup and possibly a return line cooler when I do replace the injector pump.

Welcome. If you do a search for "in tank fuel pump" on this forum you will see a thread where we discuss my new fuel pump. Seems it pushes more fuel at less pressure through the same fuel lines. The only way we think this could happen is if there is a restriction at the fuel return in the tank that is removed when the in tank pump is installed. It's new to me, but I have another 19,000 on my warranty to test it out. So far, it is running great.
