Best replacement RV batteries?

OK all you RV experts. What's the best way to go for Rv batteries? Golf cart batteries? Gel cells? The 5ver gets used 3-4 times a year. Triple slides, etc. Also has anyone tried LED bulbs in the interior lights to limit current draw? TIA

Most agree 6 volt golf cart batts have the best capacity. Gels don't hold up any longer than normal batts unfortunately.

Depends on if you need the batteries while your camping, or to you plug into electric everywhere you go?



If all you need is a bettery for getting you there, you can't beat the prices Walmart has.



I use the large yellow walmart deepcycle in my pickup camper. I was out a couple weekends ago, heater ran for around 20 of the 24 hours I was away, still had charge left when I came home. Good enough for they type of boondocking I do with the pickup camper.



Now my 5er needs the battery for the break away brakes and some lights if I stop at night, every where I go with it has electric.

Its battery is going on its 4th season, if it goes bad, it will get replaced with a 27 series walmart deep cycle.

I have had very good luck with the Interstate Deep Cycle Marine/Rv series of batteries

There are several good threads on this topic, particularly about the use of connecting two 6 volt golf cart batteries in series-Trojan batteries.

Go with the two 6v Trojans. They have 220 amp hours of power and can be deep cycled 3x as many times as 12V deep cycle batteries. Basically, they last longer and have more power. Tim

I went to the local battery guy who handles Trojan to get the 6 volt. batteries for our trailer. He was out of the T105s and said that he is not restocking any Trojan batteries. He said that they are the best battery on the market but the company is just terrible to deal with and he's not going to put up with the hassle any more.

From a forklift tech I used to know... the 12 V aren't true deep cycle because the plate construction isn't the same as a true deep cycle and you can't compare the 12V and 6V golfcart batt. data because it's not apples to apples. He said the 12V aren't rated by the same standards as a true deep cycle. I've also seen a comparison of all type of RV and marine batts. and the 6V golfcart batts. is by far the most bang for the buck (watts/life/$$). Craig

This is true. Trailerlife had a good compairson on all the types one time, sure wish I could find a copy to scan it so I could share it.



the 6v golf cart batteries were good for like 500 cycles, where most 12v marine/deep cycle were good for around 200-250 cycles. NOTE: A car battery is only good for around 20 cycles!



What I was saying earler is it depends what your doing with it. 6v Golf cart batteries cost as much as a big 12v deepcycle, and you need 2 of them. If your not camping without power, I feel its kind of a waist of money
