A friend of mine and member of the Turbo Diesel Register is looking to replace his pads and rotors on his second gen. He is having problems with his membership currently so I am posting for him.

So what is everyones opinion on the best Rotors and Pads for a 2001 3500 Dually. He tows a fairly large Bumper Pull trailer also... .

Thanks,

JJ

I spent the money for complete front brakes, rotors, calipers, carbon/kevlar pads and steel lines from EGR. Haven't had any brake issues since, almost 4 yrs.

Just go with a set of bendix pads. Make sure your cailper slide pins are well greased and more freely. Make sure you chamfer the pads very good. You can get a set of rotors from carquest or napa. If you want to spend the money, get crossdrilled rotors to lower the heat.

NAPA AE Pads and AE rotors. They have 2 lines of brakes and rotors available for these trucks, but the AE are the metalic pads and better rotor. They make the best aftermarket parts. You can also go with an EGR or Brembo solution, but there might be unforseen changes required to make this mod.

Hmmm... that price seems kinda high.

TireRack.com has them for much cheaper.

I just put Brembo blanks, Hawk Super Duty's and Goodridge steel lines recently. Feels GREAT! Not only the big improvement in stoping, but the improvement in pedal feel and modulation is well worth the effort.

I would strongly recommend against any type of cross drilled or slotted rotors. Cracked/Warped rotors and glazed pads are no fun.

I'm happy with the EGR rotors & pads.

Has anyone replaced the pads yet? Is there a different source for the pads?

thanks

I used the best I could get from Carquest. Also flush, not just bleed the fluid BEFORE you push the caliper piostons back in. That way you do not push any rust or any loose particle of crud back up the line and into the Master cylinder. Brake fluid is $3 per quart and a M cyl is about $500. Brake fluid should be flushed and replaced every two years as it attracts water. Rust is what turns brake fluid off-color.

I too am looking at replacing my rotors. EGR or EBC? can not decide. I am going to replace the pads, naturally, and the rotors. But what about calipers? is it really necessary to replace those? Any comments? Oh, one more thing, do these guys carry the bearings? I think I have a bearing going out on the infamous left side.

Thanks

Jake

How many miles on your calipers? If the caliper pins are not frozen and slide each way and no leaks, no reason to get new or rebuilt calipers... .
