To be honest (im a new member) I own 3 Fords and im selling one 2004 F-350 6. 0ltr diesel

I am wanting to buy a dodge ... im looking to find the cummins year model that sounds most like a tractor trailer?

I have heard any 12V will sound like a big rig and was told by a diesel guru that the 98. 5-02 24V has a good sounding big rig exhaust note?

Any insite? :-laf

I have the '01. 5 HO/6speed like johncameron, with 4" exhaust straight piped. Sounds just like his truck. I like driving through town between the buildings with the windows down :-laf .

Thanks for the file John. I've been looking for one to use when my pc starts. If only it "squeaked" when you shut it off it would sound exactly like my 01. :-laf

It will be best to stay in the 98-02 years. The second gen. rams are still my favorite sounding trucks on the road. Love my '02 and yes it has an awesome big rig sound and the engine rattle makes it even better. My buddy went from an '01 to an '03 and he hates the way the 3rd gens are so quiet. I would go with an 02 as its the last of the 2nd gens. Good luck!

Is it the injection pump that makes the sound different? Would different injectors make a difference? I know I will be taking the stacks off my ford and switching them to the dodge.

Does a twin turbo have a louder whistle? Right now my truck has the 03 6. 0ltr powerstroke. . which more than likely has the loudest turbo of all... . but still hate the V-8 sound (sounds like a gasser!) :D

the injection pump on the second gens is what gives the motor its rattle. The turbo whistle varies from truck to truck, but some have a pretty good sound from the stock one by just changing the filter for more flow.

12v is a better engine...

the exhaust note from 12 and 24 is pretty much the same...

the rattle from the injection event of the 24v is WAY louder than a 12v.

twin turbos don't whine/whistle as much as a single while just cruising around because the big turbo isn't turning very fast at low engine loads

There is argument for that but remeber the 24v combustion chamber is different. Dont know any of our specs but also higher injection pressure tipacly yields more knock, as well as timing advance.

For the classic "Big Rig" start up, especially when cold, My 12v has it. Cranks only long enough for fuel to fire (no waiting for position sensors), and she turns so slow at first the truck shakes. Add a little ;) pump advance and a quick rap to the throttle and ingitoin is very sharp. But still diferent than the 24v.

I still would pick 24v over 12v for "big" exhaust sound, but you can trick your exhaust for the desired effect.

I had a 98 24V, now I got an 02 24v. The 02 seems louder then the 98. Maybe its the fact Dodge got cheep and skimped on the noise insulation on the 02 :(

Dont listen to that bull, the 24 valve is a better engine, and its alot easier to make hp and torque with. 12 or 24 valve tho all i have is one question to ask you..... WTF were u thinking when you bought a 6. 0 powerjoke????????????
