Ok folks. Truck's a wonderin' again. Besides R/R the balljoints, I need to do something (for the last time) to the Trackbar. Question is: Do I go with the Luke's Links setup or the Windecker trackbar retro kit, changing to the 3rd Gen. trackbar. I've heard good things about the Luke's Links. Any suggestions (be nice!) would help!

Lindstad's Track Bar

This is the trackbar I have on my truck, I am going on 4 years and about 85,000 miles and have only had to tighten it two or three times ( one quarter turn each time) and the truck has never given me a bit of trouble on the front end in that entire time. I also have the added weight of the ranchhand bumpers up there so frankly I had expected to have more problems. They are only about a ten minute drive from me and I go to them for everything I can because they are the most honest and easiest to deal with business I have ever worked with. I just had the truck over there on Monday of this week to have the alignment checked, the front end gone over (because I will be buying new tires here in a few weeks and I like to have it all perfect when the new tires go on) and to have them look at replacing a u-joint because it seemed like I had a little slop in the driveline. They called me back about an hour after I dropped it off and said the toe in needed some minor adjustment, found nothing else wrong with the truck. Total bill $35. 00

A second vote for the Lindstad kit. I used it and it is great, still tight and no wander at all. The only drawback if you can call it that is that it requires that you weld. For me that was a non-issue.

Really if you are not wanting to weld they do offer the option of ordering the full bar and just sending back the core (your old one).

I'll give them a shout tomorrow A. M. and see what they have instock. I like the idea of getting one done already I don't trust my welding skills (enev though it's just tacking it up). There are a few other options out there also I need to check into. Well, other than getting a new truck! My wife just wouldn't understand... .....

I got my new Linstatds bar todat. I'll put it on tomorrow(saturday) then off to the ole fishin' hole. Thanks for the heads up on the product.

Well, I hope you have as good a luck with yours as I have with mine. Just remember to keep it greased when you do all your other grease points and you should not have a problem.

Have fun fishing too!

I have the solidsteel adjustable trac bar and bracket, it is stout and has needed zero adjustment. I put this on with my d25's and bilstein 5100's and it drives straight as an arrow.

Dave :)

+1 for the Solid Steel Steering stabilizer

and the Sloid Steel 3rd gen trackbar change. This is a bracket that bolts on and you get a regular 3rd gen trackbar and you're done... The Steer stabil is just as easy. . I did both and the truck tracks with just a finger touch on the wheel... Never had a death wobble

My truck doesnt wander or have death wobble but I do have some play in the steering wheel. Will the solid steel track bar and bracket fix that?

I have great results with the Thuren Track bar. I lost my death wobble and wandering and cant find it. It also doesn't require any cutting welding or drilling.

At 175000 miles my truck was all over the road, I put on solidsteel steering stabilizer, Thuren track bar, and the Borgeson steering shaft and bilstein shocks. I done one item at a time and the steering stabilizer done the most to get the play out of the steering. The track bar was the second item that took the play out. The truck drives like new. Oo.

It should help if your track bar is worn, You'd have to have someone move the wheel and see if there's any play. There was also a technical service bulletin on adjusting the play in the steering box. That might help you too. Not sure what the # was, but could probably find it for you if you need it.

My Luke's Link on my 99 SRW 4x4 broke apart stranding me in Salt Lake City... my friends in the rockcrawling world helped me out late on a Saturday night and used a 1. 75" uniball fabricated to the stock trackbar and it lasted 240,000 miles after that.

The Luke's Link simply disenegrated as I drove out of a standard driveway on my way to So Cal.

Good Luck :D

I second the Thuren bar. I asked Don how long it would last before needing rebuilt and he said he didnt know because he's never had one wear out as long as he's been building them.
