Baby, that was a good topic. Got a smoke? Never mind, I see there's plenty already. Group hug, anyone? Anyone? Group hug? I'm with you John Berger.

This could get ugly

Alls I'm gonna say here, is that I've never driven a truck equipped with a Goerend set up so I can't speak to that particular brand. That having been said, I will say that I have read enough posts on this forum by guys with various brands of milled stator converters with complaints like they couldn't get the truck to bump over a curb from a stand still. I just got my 91% converter from DTT in last week and love it. Whether or not the stator "looks like" a particualr chrysler stator is pretty much irrelevant to me. A TST number 6 plate "looks like" the stock plate, but they don't work the same. Lastly, as far as being swamped by people who burned up their trannys because Bill didn't tell them to check the fluid? I'm just going to assume that's that sarcasm thing I've been hearing about. I don't think Bill has enough influence that he utters something in a TDR post and people nationwide burn up their trannys.

Hope I didn't stir the pot too bad, just my opinion.

Nice post dave! :D

It is about time that someone spoke the truth!

I had the problem with the fluid level truck took for ever to warm up where it would even move out of my driveway. I checked it in drive with the brake on and it was two quarts low. I filled it up to the full mark and it don't even take 2 seconds before it latches in. I had this truck in the dealer 4 different times for this problem

and they never could figure it out (it would also feel like it would drop into neutral when pulling up to a stop light. It was all I had to do to fix it was to fill it correctly. I went with one of daves converters because i cannot see that any TC for a pickup being worth close to a 1000 bucks.

I'm happy to say that i have a MILLED STATOR!

And i did not give near a weeks wages for it either.

I considered buying a converter with a steel stator but in my head it was just not worth the money.

"A TST number 6 plate looks like the stock plate"

From the top maby, but look at the fuel ramps! they look different.

Fuel plates and torque converters are completly different!

I better stop for now before i get whooped up on;)

Can't We All Just Get Along?? Let's turn this into a boxing match, sell tickets and the proceeds go for... . I know "Transmission Upgrades"!!!!! Yeah

I'd like to remind everyone that the purpose of this forum is to inform.

Please refrain from critising another's products here, as it seems that emotions get stirred and often the last thing to come out will be information that can be used by observers to make informed and good decisions.

Make the best case you can for what you believe is good, and leave it at that...

Thanks much

Arogant, Nah just dead on right. Bill's trans works. And I am being nice.

I don't know about y'all but, up 'til now, Bill K. has been the ONLY trans supplier who has answered my question about second gear starts.

And he gave me a way to diagnosis for the fix! He didn't ask a PENNY for the advise.

That speaks volumes in my book.

I'm goin' with DTT, when I get the new transmission regardless of where I'm at when this one scatters, explodes or whatever!

I don't have a Goerend TC, but Dave spent 2. 5 hours with me on the phone explaining how a TC works and answering other questions I had. When I asked him about Bill's TC, he did not say anything bad about it. He told me he had no first hand experience with it, but many guys seem to like it a lot. He also said that although Bill and he have had many differences, he hopes that one day when they are both old and retired, they could sit down together over a cup of coffee and laugh about the "old days" (which is now). Dave is a real nice guy and also willing to give free diagnosis over the phone. I have never spoken to Bill K, but I heard he is the same. They are also both highly qualified trans experts and I would not hesitate, in fact be honored, to have either one work on my truck.

I know it's been said before, but I admire Bill K giving me a call and talking to me about my questions on converters and valve bodies. As far a a grand for a converter, isnt this like someone paying 80K for a mercedes as opposed to 8K for a Kia? They both do the same thing, but which would you want to drive, and which would you feel safer in?

I am going to spend the $ for DTT stuff, since I intend to spend it only once.

????????????????????????????????????????

WTF? Bill NEVER said or advocated not checking the ATF level! Where do you come up with that crap Dave? In fact, he and Vinnie checked my ATF level at least 10-20 times after my initial DTT transmission upgrade and tweaking process..... and that was in mid January. I don't know about the rest of you but, warranty ( ) or not, YOU HAVE TO PERIODICALLY CHECK THE ATF LEVEL! If that's too much dam*ed trouble just start taking the bus!

Dave, I challenge you to offer a transmission upgrade that drives better than mine or any other DTT modified transmission.

john if you go and read the posts from last winter you will see that bill said it was normal to take up to 2 minutes to warm up your trans before it will work properly. the problems that were described were that the trucks would not move or would slip going around corners at slow speed and after they were completely warmed up they would work fine. bill told them that it was normal to have to warm them for two minutes. anyone with any trans experience at all should be able to tell you that this is a low fluid condition. when the fluid warms up it gets thin if it works better warm we know it cant be the pump the fluid expands and now the filter gets all fluid and no air. go read the posts and you will see that bill was saying this was normal drainback. he even gave calculations that would show it took that long. i can fill an empty trans and be moving before two minutes. so bill did not tell anyone not to check fluid he just did not tell them to check it and instead told them it was normal condition that they had.

John,

I have tried to not get worked up over this thread, actually I would have never commented if I had not received a copy of an email that was sent by Dieselnerd.

The content in a nutshell was about how good dave’s stuff was and how mine was just overpriced. See publicly he was commenting on how dave would install my stuff, and behind the scenes they were doing a hatchet job on me. Guys like that, I don’t much care what their opinions is as it tends to change depending on the tone of the conversation.

However, what you and my customers think does matter to me. So let me give you a crash transmission course on YOUR DODGE.

Anytime you park your vehicle, a certain amount of oil is going to drain into the pan, you can verify what I am saying by checking your oil level with the engine off in the morning.

You will notice how much higher up the dipstick the oil is compared to the engine running in neutral. According to your service manual if you follow Chrysler’s rules, the dodge pump will pump up to one quart of oil every 20 seconds in neutral and nothing – minimal in park.

People that tend to drive their truck without letting the engine idle tend to cause more wear than a guy that follows a simple warm up procedure. Oil follows a certain path, and the system should be fully charged before engaging drive or reverse. You should wait until the oil reaches the return line because the oil coming through that line is what lubricates the intermediate shaft and the planetary gears.

The intermediate shaft also lubricates the 4th gear piston support which is one of the most highly damaged parts in the dodge transmission. I replace about one out of every three of these. So if guys like Dave and Dieselnerd tells you it is ok to just fire up and go, the choice is ultimately yours.

As for your tc, it unique in the world, no other tc has been built like yours for any vehicle. We have ever taken this steel stator technology to a level which is said to be impossible. This technology you wont find in ANY book but the one that Diesel Transmission Technology is writing. As for the comment comparison of this stator to the v6, that statement I assuming was just for laughs, as no one could possible be that ignorant.

John, if you want to verify any of what I am telling you, just install a pressure gauge in the cooler line where you have your current temp sensor , as you are driving down the road you will see your pressure jump up from 30 to 80psi, that jump in line pressure indicates the oil has been dumped from between the clutch piston and the front cover of the tc which should indicate that your lockup clutch has been applied.

However in your truck the lock up clutch did not apply. That is because of the tc design which pulls the turbine and locks it with the front pump. NO OTHER TC has ever accomplished this.

What you are driving is not possible, what our customers are driving is not possible according to books. So really John, how does one explain this type of product to an industry , yes my customers are driving it but it theoretically according to all the books , it is not possible and does not exist.

Hence our term , driving is believing. Welcome to the DARK SIDE guys.

This diesel industry consumer has been lied to and manipulated , by tc vendors and manufactures for so long that the only thing left for them is to do is to try and confuse the consumers mis-information.

STALL SPEED – is a measurement of where the engine rpm can no longer come up , in other words the engine is locked to the transmission using the tc . Now if your truck makes 30lbs of boost, and that is it’s maximum output, you should be able to do a stall speed test at about 26 lbs of boost and record at what engine rpm you are at, that is a basic way to measure stall speed in your dodge.

JOHN< DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME, a DTT converter will hold the Cummins.

It should only be done by a trained professional.

I have stalled tested a lot of milled stators tc’s for customers before installing our tc’s ,

They were supposed to have gotten 1600 stalls as advertised by the manufactures,

You wouldn’t want to see the look on these guys faces when we get up to 2600 rpms , and I am only at 20lbs of boost and their trucks make over 30. On paper marketing makes these TC’s sound really good as was its intention. In real life a pressure gauge and knowing how to use it is one of the most valuable tool you Dodge guys will ever buy.

Understanding stall speed and asking the manufacturer at what boost level and power level they are taking their measurements at, will help protect you guys from being conned.

TC EFFICIENCY- At DTT we measures ours under full load.

The others measure theirs in a coast position, while their #’s using this method can up as high as 98% according their marketing, it has been my experience that Dodge ram owners do not always drive their trucks down hill .

So guys while you may see the ad’s for lower stall than DTT, more efficiency than DTT, keep in mind how the measurements were taken. 20% of our business comes from guys that fell victim to that kind of marketing. Don’t take my word for it, the best advice I can give you is to just do you home work . And road test guys trucks using the different products, I have found the Dodge ram owners to be very friendly and willing to share information, just watch out for the ones with hidden agendas that say one thing in public and another in private.

hey bill you are right lube oil is very important that is why we like to get the fluid level correct so we have lube oil in 5 to 8 seconds instead of two minutes you guys who like to wait and warm up your truck that is just great but warm it up for the right reason dont warm it up so the trans works without slippage fill the trans and it will work as soon as you start the engine if your in texas you should not have to warm your truck for 2 minutes in 100 degree weather.

hey bill i emailed you this am and asked you to send me the email where you say i was running you down, i am waiting, just like the other times i have emailed you, you never get back to me. i would very much like to see that email. i know and still have all the emails that i have sent to anyone about a cummins converter or trans. i would like to compare what you have recieved and what i actually wrote.

dave g

Dave,

I read the post by my dad and he said that the e-mail was sent by Dieselnerd.

I wouldn't hold my breath on a response, we're going racing this weekend.

Dave rest assured that I will make sure that he triple checks my trans fluid before I race. (lol) :D

why don't you just send me a copy of that email. you could just email it to me i have emailed you several times in hopes of laying this bs to rest but you guys never return my emails

seems like you guys can dish it out but when someone starts to give it back you just like to change the subject, print a lot of bs, make it sound like were trashing you and doing all this behind the scene. i want to see the email where i trashed you. i want to compare it to any email that i have ever sent. if you dont want to email it to me put it on this board so we can all see it. just make sure it is factual and you can prove it.

you accuse me of lying and trashing you. i am now confronting you and want to see it.

like before, you said that if i change my mind about something i am lying. i have many more examples where you have posted one thing and several months later posted just the opposite. i have them right here in front of me. i should just post them all so people who are able to see through your bull will see just what sort of long term marketing you really do. you may fool a lot of people out there but your not fooling me.

you say you have driven all the milled stators tell me bill when have you driven one of mine? whoes truck was it in?

you want to compare converters all you need to do is put the specs out there for people to see. and the hp that they were tested at. you dont ever do this you just dance around the subject. you once said we test our converter stall for 10 seconds, then in the next breath you say stall is overrated it should be efficiency. you said if all you are doing is stall testing in your drive way then it matters otherwise it is useless. when you worked for bd you posted that it is important to match the stall to the engine.

you told us all that hogwash about 91% and 93% and so on then several months later you said that you had yet to sell a 93% converter as the engine cant take it without the boost. you confirmed this in another post when you explained to a guy that he will not have jack rabbit starts any more because he is going to coupling so soon. hey the guy never changed the engine so why dont you explain why he lost all his initial acceleration.

you were telling us how the ratchel computer program could verify the efficiency of any converter the topic was ADVENTURES AT THE RACE TRACK 7-25-00 here you say since this is a mathematical formula based on known facts it WILL NOT MATTER HOW MUCH HP YOU HAVE, OR WHAT KIND OF LOAD YOU ARE TOWING

oh what a difference 10 months make the topic is bd's new x converter just a little back ground here these people are debating if a converter can be upwards of 98% efficient. here is what bill has to say in this post

JP IS CORRECT, MOST OF THE TC'S IN THE DRAG RACING INDUSTRY PREFORM ABOVE 94% IN TODAYS MARKETPLACE THAT IS THE EXPECTED NORM. HOWEVER THEY MEASURE AT APPROX. 6000 RPMS PLUS, AND MOST OF THESE DRAG CARS ARE UNDER 3000 LBS.

IF THAT SAME RACER WEIGHED 6000 LBS, AND YOU MEASURED IT AT 6000 RPMS THE CONVERTER WILL NOT HAVE PREFORMED AT THE SAME LEVEL.

THE SAME IS TRUE IF YOU TRY TO MEASURE THIS SAME CONVERTER AT 2000 RPM.

WE USED THE SAME METHOD THE DRAG RACERS USED TO TEST THEIR CONVERTERS, SIMPLY BECAUSE IT IS THE METHOD THAT WAS AVAILABLE TO ME AND I AM FIMILAR WITH IT.

now get this next paragraph from bill

WE USED THE SAME TRUCK, SAME HP, THESE FIGURES HAVE NO MEANING TO ANYONE OTHER THAN DIESEL TRANSMISSION TECHNOLOGY, FIRST ALL OF YOU DO NOT HAVE OUT TRUCK, YOU MAY NOT HAVE OUR GEAR RATIO, YOUR TIRE SIZE MAY BE DIFFERENT, ALL THESE VARIABLES WILL AFFECT THE OUTCOME.

IF I CHANGED MY GEAR RATIO FROM 355 TO A 410, THE TC EFFICIENCY IS GOING TO GO UP SIMPLY BECAUSE THERE IS LESS LOAD ON THE CONVERTER

IF I INCREASE THE AMOUNT OF HP THE EFFICIENCY LEVEL OF THE TC IS GOING TO GO DOWN SIMPLY BECAUSE THERE IS MORE LOAD BEING PLACED ON THE TC BY THE ENGINE.

so bill first it did not matter how much hp we had or how big the load was but now it matters you have said it both ways again i assume you were trying to fool people to get your product out. now that it is out you can tell the true story that power in and load applied DOES matter. i can give more examples of your contraditcions if you like. i will put them up on the board so i dont get accused of doing it behind the scenes again.

bill i dont need to run you or your product down and never have

i could care less if i ever sell another cummins converter or do another cummins powered automaitc trans i say this because i dont have to rely on one product line, we do almost any automatic transmission on the road so if i dont do any one certain model it is not going to effect me what so ever.

this post all started because some people liked my converter and valve body. i dont jump all over people when they say they like yours. these people liked my converter because it is not a slouch at low speed that cant climb over a curb. it multiplies torque just like the factory converter, and it couples tight at hi rpm at 230 hp when lock up at full throttle at 2250 the rpms drop 250 when locked up at 2900 the lock up drops 125. is it going to make a difference how big the load is and what the axle ratio and tire size it YES IT IS and i have always told people that. even if it meant spending an hour on the phone and not selling a converter to them anyway.

for you guys that are getting ready to jump on me for saying it is not a slouch at low speed that cant climb over a curb i am in no way implying that a dtt converter has this problem. i have driven converters that have had the stators improperly milled that have had this problem and believe me i know just what you mean, they literally cant climb over a curb until the boost is up. rest assured my converter does not lower multiplication and does not have this problem. as i have said before we do not remove nor shorten the turbine side of the stator blade. and if you dont think you can buy a high quality converter that works for 360 bucks you are sadly mistaken.

i am waiting for that email-----

Bill Kondolay and DTT

Hey Bill, I don't have to check anything! (except for my ATF level... which I ALWAYS DO :p ). I have put my complete trust in you and DTT products and have 100% faith in your ability to provide the very best automatic transmission products for our Rams. You, yourself checked the before/after pressures on my Ram when I was at DTT for my transmission upgrade. Your last post made it sound as if I'm some sort of "doubting Thomas"... nothing could be further from the truth. I didn't get back with a response right away as I was more or less going to wash my hands of this whole thread as it seemed counterproductive.

I would like to say up front that I ALWAYS warm up my 24v CTD (at least a little bit even when I'm in a hurry) before taking off... I have never experienced the TC drain back being discussed here... then again, my ATF level is NEVER low! I'm also the one who ALWAYS lets his CTD idle until it cools down to 300 degrees F. (which seems to take longer than everyone elses  ). Why? I take pride in the ownership of all my possessions including my Ram. That's the reason I don't have to replace broken/missing/abused things that I own... I take care of it right THE FIRST TIME! That includes my Ram. Anyone who wants verification of this can see my Ram at the Timberline Dodge Rally, Show-N-Shine next weekend.

Have a great day everyone. . especially you Bill! I would have really liked to have attended the drag racing outing you and Stefan are putting on this weekend however, I needed this one last weekend to get ready for the show... lots of changes and upgrades. :D

heh,heh,heh :D
