I'm wanting to upgrade my 48re for future power upgrades(500+/-total) . How reliable is just changing out the valve body and the TC, and how much power will it be able to handle.

Whats everyones opinion of the Goerend, ATS and Suncoast transmission's? Reliability, warranty, Price etc.

My opinion would be DTT. I have had great luck and there technicians are top notch. I am over the 500 hp mark, and I'm glad I didn't just do the TC/Valve body. With that kind of power, you'll atleast need a billet input shaft. If your going to spend the $$, then get the billet input and output shafts as well. Trust me, it's worth it. Also, go to DTT's website and read an article written by Bill (founder of DTT) and he explains why it's important to not just do a TC/ VB upgrade. Hope this helps.

I love my DTT but I think that Dave Goerend has certainly got things figured out. I've had several phone conversations with him and he's always willing to help and give great advice and I haven't even bought a thing... ... . yet. ;)

I love my ATS

Not to start another transmission war, but I really like my ATS trans, convertor, billet flex plate and transmission controller. I recommend you call each of the companies and talk with them. Please look ahead as you upgrade your truck with power mods because if you take the inexpensive trans route now you may have to upgrade again. It's cheaper to go ahead and go for the billet stuff, especially the flex plate and input shaft if you're planning more than 100hp.

I suggest you get a trans controller to control the convertor's lock-up speed, (the stock conv didn't lock up until about 50mph). I picked up a 1 to 2 mpg increase because my stock convertor was always slipping around town in traffic which heats the trans fluid and wastes energy.

Just my 2 cents.

Suncoast is my choice, I would buy from them aagin, just find a good installer thats worth as much as the quality of the parts. Goerend seems like good stuff too. The others are I. M. O. just "BIG" names.

Here come the transmission wars... ... ... ..... (cough, cough) Goerend (cough, cough)

Hey Chris did you order directly from Dave or did you deal with a local shop?

Thanks!

I love my Suncoast, and they stand behind it. I have sold and installed several NADP units too. They use the same parts as Suncoast, and for most people the price and build is more than ideal. I agree that most of the big names are very good units and really it boils down to a few items - Cost, service, and supply. If your favorat shop offers a few options, they are the ones you will be dealing with directly. You need to look at that as well. if you are planning the install yourself, then you need to talk to each company or dealers for each company and decide who to give your hard earned money to.

Dealt directly with Dave. He's a one man show so to speak of, so he is very difficult to get ahold of. But I'll tell you what, once you get ahold of him, he's very helpful. Always willing to help ya out and explain things. Reb. B @ Browns Diesel put her in for me, but between the 3 of us, we made sure the transmission was going to be done right.

You cannot beat Dave's warranty and service. I am having some 2-3 shift issues, where the transmission jumps back and forth, can't make it's self happy, so Dave has contacted one of his guys down here in Texas for me and is going to send out new parts and have his guy do the install on the valve body and springs. Can't beat that.

If you have trouble getting ahold of him, contact Reb. B, he always manage's to get ahold of Dave, and even if he can't, he's one of Dave's right hand dudes out it Cali. PM me for contact info for either if you need it. Good luck!

Goerend By far! I live only 30 miles from his shop so I have delt with Dave personally. He will stand behind his products, and I know if I would ever have any problems he would bend over backwards to make it right.

WCPoe, you say to call each company, which I think is very smart. But that is when I was turned off from ATS, when I talked to a tech I was very disapponited with them. I'm not saying that they have a bad product, Im just saying that they need to get some better tech guys to talk about there products. I have talked with Clint Cannon (owner) and he is great to talk to, but man their phone techs?

Anyway just my 2 cents,

Snoxracer
