Scary braking experience revisited

Curious if anyone has any recommendations about Electric Tongue Jacks. What's the best buy (quality vs cost)? Camping World is having a sale right now on some brands.

Just picked up a new 26' Alumascape travel trailer, which pretty much had everything, except one of these handy little guys.

Thanks,
Frank Dz

I have one for my 28' Aerolite TT. I think it is made by Atwood. I bought Atwood because I could get it locally and the hand crank jack on the TT was made by Atwood so I figured it would fit fine. I think there are different models, based on the tongue weight of the TT. I got the smallest one.

I love mine. Best thing I've bought for the TT besides the McKesh towing mirrors.

I have the one from Camping World rated at 2500 lbs tongue weight. Been on my trailer for two years and works great, although I think I need to disassemble and clean/lube the gears. It's making funny grinding noises ever since I towed on that dusty dirt road.

A couple of RVs before our present 5er we owned a 26' Corsica and intalled an H&H High Torque Acme Power Jack on it... . best thing we ever did! You'll truly appreaciate it when your in 95% humidity and 95' temp. in the south and your raising and lowering your TT several times to set your hitch. Of course the price has gone up #ad

I suggest joining Camping world for RV gear and specials! And man do they deliver fast!
I don't think you'll go wrong with any of the power jacks. Installation is super easy; three bolts and one wire.
You'll almost want to hook your TT up just to play with the tongue jack !!

Like Tagalong says, "You will love it" I have a 2500# cap. 12 volt lift made by Atwood Mobil Products out of Rockford Ill. It came on my 29ft. Terry TT. Not a single problem in last 4 years. There other things that I would rather expand my energy on than cranking on one of thoes manual ones. #ad

FYI! If this saves someone from grief it will have done its job. When working with the jack do not have any part of your body under the trailer frame! I have seen the jacks strip out and crash down in a fraction of a second. (do not know if exlectric will do the same thing or not).
I know of a case where one gentlemen lost his life by jacking and leveling at a camp spot and it pinned him when it came down.

If you're handy fabricating things you can make one out of an old large C-band satellite dish actuator. Most of these dishes are dinosaurs now and can be had for free. Friend of mine built a jack for his TT with one,the motors are 32 VDC,but turn fast enough with enough torque to lift 2k lbs with 12 V. These actuators also make excellent electric stock gate openers. Since most of the C-band dishes were made out of aluminum, you can find them at your local recycling center. I've picked up six actuators in the last year in my town of 2000 people's recycling center, they're easy to come by.

I have an Atwood with backup hand crank(strongly recomend back up). I have ruined my first Atwood and stressing out my second heavy duty one. When I get extra bread I will ck out options. I know there are heavier duty ones around. I would never be without a power jack on my TT. My TT has a 1,000 lb tounge weight and it has to lift the truck to install equilizer bars and/or unload my bike.

Hey Frank, you took the plunge. #ad
Well, ok, overvalved & obsolete style tow vehicle still works for camping. #ad

I used the Atwood on 2 bumper hitch getaway towables. I had to hog out the hole in the tongue of one of them to put it in, but well worth it. It's great when you pull in with someone else who doesn't have one & they are cranking away, while you're using one finger to lift the front. #ad
The other hand is free to hold the tall cool one. #ad

If you're using the load equilizer bars, it's easier to remove them if you lift the front of the trailer 1st. More the reason to invest. #ad
