The time has finally come...

My stock exhaust has given out (big hole in the side of the pipe right in front of the muffler!) So, it's time to put something better (bigger?) on.

I don't post a lot here, there are so many more people who know so much more than I do, but I do read a lot and have seen a lot of discussion about Rip Rock...

What is the BEST aftermarket exhaust system for the turbo back? I want one that I can put on fairly easily, will work well, sound nice, keep the EGTs down, will last, and maybe even give me a little extra power.

The truck is a 92 regular cab with 5 speed manual transmission, all stock. It's a work truck (for now, may someday be promoted to "toy" status) so I need something I can put on and won't have to mess with.

Thanks for your input!

Rip's is good. My son put one on his 94. His muffler sounds nice too.

I had Janetty put a 4 inch system together for me, only because I wanted to save the cross country shipping cost and support a local. Janetty is only a few miles from me. My muffler is a lot quieter than Rip's.

Both of our systems use a 3 inch downpipe, then 4 the rest of the way back.

The performance gains I saw were pretty big, so I say go for it.

I got mine from Scheid diesel,It's a full 4 inch system. It's also a straight pipe so its pretty loud, but sounds much better than a stock straight pipe system. It brought a 150 deg. egt reduction and made a few more #'s of boost. A great upgrade. You wont be sorry. Sounds like Rip's systems are good. And they are real fair.

Rip Rook

Havent gotten anything from him except a set of EDM injectors, so I cant vouch for the quality of his exhaust, but I can say he will bend over backwards to make sure you get what you need. Service is worth the extra money.

when i built my exaust i wasnt expecting a big increase in power, just sound. but after the system was on i was pretty pleased. with the 5 inch pipe and 5 inch stack with the pump turned 1 3/4 turns the truck produced 211 hp and 487 ft/lbs. running about 25 lbs of boost. all this was done in a weekend. the total cost of the exaust was about $350, but then again, it looks built. after a little tweaking my numbers were up to 225 and 510+. good luck

Thanks for all your replies.

One other question - I have heard differing opions on what size pipe will fit comfortably from the back of the turbo down. I've heard 4 inch is quite tight in making the turn from the turbo down with the 5 speed transmission and transfer case.

I think I would like to go at least 4 inch for the majority of the pipe.

Also, what I am looking at for an approximate price?

Thanks again!

4 is a little tight, but I fit it on my truck. The tightest part was going around the t-case bracket. If its not bent just right it wont fit. I didnt really have any problem with the big downpipe. I would say one will cost $300-450.

Caleb C, where are you located? Scheid sold you a 'full' 4"kit- turbo back, 4" through/past the transfer case too? I'd like to fit 5" under the truck from downpipe back. Leave the factory 3" downpipe there for now til I get a turbo that has a 4" outlet. I've read to fit 5" past the t-case, you have to mitre cut and weld some but it will fit. Don't know if it be worth the effort for 4" from dp back to rear of t-case, then 5" back to tail pipe. Although 5" from dp back would be cool.

Howdy,i'm in central texas. And yes its a full 4 in all the way. They had to make it while I waited but it turned out great. And yes it's a little tight through the t-case,I have about a1/16th of a inch on each side of the pipe. But it works great. I had to make a bracket to hold it tight right through there because it would hit(rattle)when I shut it off . But it works great and sounds awesome.
