Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Best turbo for my setup?

I've got a 96 12v with a 215 pump.



I have:

5 inch stacks, no cat or muffler

AFE 2 stage intake

370 marine injectors

plugged wastegate on stock turbo

stock fuel plate



Planning on:

3gsk kit

larger turbo

#10 plate



What turbo should i get and why? Want something that is streetable, thinking I want the truck around 400hp, 1000lbs or torque ... slightly higher is fine.



I have seen the hx40 by piers, htt turbos, but confused with so many options... Does a #10 plate sound good too? Do I need DV's and AFC spring kits?

I think that you would be happier with a #6 plate, unless you tow a lot. As for the turbo, I am pretty happy with my HX40. If you are going for 400 hp, an HX40 will suit you well, but if you know you will want more, than I would look at the super phat shafts, or the High Techs.

I agree, you should be fine with the hx40 for around 400 horses, but the htt or industrial injections 62/14 would be good to, especially if you plan to go with bigger hp numbers.

I freakin' love my sps62... 62/14 would probably be better if all you want is 400hp, especially if you want to tow, but I know plenty of people tow w/ the sps62



the HX40 is alright, but I'd buy a used S300 based hybrid... it'll spool better and cool better

Go with the 10 plate not the 6, because if you go Gov springs the 6 plate can catch. The 10 plate has the best design. Don't go with an hx-40, thats old news and the shafts are too small and they snap easy when you let off the throttle hard, especially on auto's. I know there are people here that have had hx-40's for 1,000,001 miles but for the most part they like to snap. If you want streetable and fast and still move alot a fair amount of air then go with the BD Super B. You can find them in the low $1100's up to $1300. The sps 62 is higher i believe. The switzer design turbo is a hair slower than a holset, (because of shaft size), but the switzer is a hell of a lot more dependable. BD, Ind. Inj. , Hytech Turbo, all sell a modified Switzer, BD just has them modified at the factory and the other companies buy factory turbos and modify them in house which is more expensive.

Are going for power or spool up. Take the 12 cm if you want spool, take the 14 if you lean towards the power. Not drastic differences, but that is the best way I can tell ya to see what you want. HTT has new housings coming soon. The 13cm sounds very promising.
