Pull off the Boost elbow that came with your EZ, and put the stock elbow back in and tell me what EGT did..... the reduction in EGT came from the higher boost pressure... . and little else, especially the air filter.....

on edit: the EZ can affect EGT from its affect on VP44 dynamic timing... . but this is only because it affects the Cut Off Ratio of the combustion cycle.

ok back on topic... . go with the cheapest exhaust... . they are all just about the same, and provide no performance gain over a 3" straight pipe untill start to get wild with BOMBS... ... aka over 375 HP

They all sound very different. SO technically the are not all basically the same.

I've personally had the JRE, and Bullydog. I have heard the Jardine and DD system. None of them sound alike, they each have a unique sound.

Just wanted to point it out so not someone thinks they are all one and the same. Also I believe some of them might be different thickness as well, not 100% sure on that.

But yes I agree they should all offer the same "performance" :D

Rip's exhaust,

has anybody used or heard Rip's Mufflerless Shorty that comes out in front of rear wheel, i know it will keep my wheel black but is there a difference in sound? i just really like the way it looks in front of the wheel. also would there still be a drone without muffler since it is considerably shorter? i have 3" straight and i hate the resonation and the drone but like the loudness and sound it produces. thanks in advance,

This is a little off base but a couple of weeks ago I installed a Bully Dog 5" system. I really like the system it fits well and sounds awsome. The best benefit I have seen so far is the time for turbo cooldown has dropped significantly.

Ditto. I'm interested in the same kit, but hesitant to install it because of noise. Anyone... . anyone..... ?????????

Four inch exhaust

I got a dynomax 4" cat back system for my 98 12 valve. The tail pipe is mandrel bent and the muffler is a round six inch dia welded. None of the hanger's they supplyed fit and the tip was a joke. Its a chrome 4" with a flat end. Yuk. I found a stainless 5 inch choked down to 4 inch by magnaflow for 63. 00. You can buy the tailpipe for 56. 00 and the muffler for 90. 00 for a total of 209. 00 for a full mandrel bent 4" system. Your stock hangers will work for the muffle and all you have to do is to weld on two 3/8 rods on the tail pipe and hang from the original rubber hangers. Hope this helps someone. I now run 450 EGT at 70 and 550 pulling my 14,000 trailer on flat ground. I got it up to 800 once after backing out of it on a hill and then getting on it hard up to 70 again. I have Dr performance pump and injectors and dyno at 273 to the rear wheels through two transmissions and a heavy 4 inch drive line. This is in a 3500 with 72,000 miles showing now and over two yrears with dr performance kit and the us. gear since new. Richard:cool:

 Two years ago i had Stans muffler bend a 4 inch pipe and ran it out in frt of the rear wheels, performance went up and EGT down but it was so loud without a muffler that it was nothing you wanted to drive with the rear window down. It sure looked great though. Richard

Rhoblit,

was it just loud? or did it sound like crap? did it resonate or drone? sorry to bombard you with questions just want to know what im getting myself into. thanks

Hi Du$ty, I wouldn't say it was loud compared to a Harley but it did make enough noise that when you were towing it was hard to talk in the cab. Unloaded it was better, more like a class 8 trk sound ( one without any mufflers. You can go to any trk shop and get some 4 inch stainless flex pipe and make your own. Good luck Richard

Pic

Will someone post a picture of a 4" exhaust on their truck (tail end view) I would like to see different ones on a actual truck instead of a pic of pieces just laying apart!

lower EGT

I know on my truck I started with a van aaken and elbow. Towing at around 19,000 GCVW I could push my EGT over 1200* pretty easy. I next added a 4" exhaust with muffler and max EGT was 1200*. Then I added a BHAF max EGT 1100*. So I know on my truck intake and exhaust changes made over a 100* differance JMHO.

Les

PS I think I need bigger injectors :D
