I bought a 1998 Quad cab, 12 Valve, top of the line truck, with leather, brand new in 98', truck has 71k trouble free miles, running synthic Oil in motor, transmission and rear end. . I was wondering the best way to add a little more power to the truck which I use to tow my 5th wheel (Heavy). I am a average mectanic with a home shop with all hand tools and air tools. I corrected the starter problem with the kit from Larry B's. Truck is totally stock and runs good, any ideas for ideas to pep it up a little, thanks for your input and have been a member for six years. You TDR guys rock..... ;)

First things first you'll want to take care of the KDP (killer dowel pin) which is prone to falling out and causing thousands of dollars of damage. This $50 fix can save you-

While you are ordering from TST go ahead and get the ''BHAF''-

Next you need a 4'' exhuast system, they are fairly cheap on ebay get one there the cheapest you can find. I paid $260 shipped for mine, fit perfect. No need to pay more elsewhere.

Those things won't do much for power but will keep your EGT's down when towing. Speaking of EGT's, you need to get gauges. This is a great combo from city diesel for towing-

Now we need to know if you have an automatic or a manual transmission, it makes a difference for what pump you have for power upgrades.

Add gauges Boost and EGT then slide your fuel plate forward. Sliding the plate on my 97 5spd was good for about 70 extra horses. EGT's should not be a problem even when towing as stock plate will still defuel as normal.

I have a '98 12v and about a year ago I purchased the Stinger Plus package from Banks. Came with 3 1/2" exhaust, bigger turbine housing & wastegate, gauges, air filter, and a fuel calibration plate. Cost about $1,600. 00. Gave me about 95 hp & 250 torque gains. Really noticeable! and I installed it myself. Check out their wesite.

Good luck!

Banks is overpriced for what you get. There's many more vendors now and have stuff thats better than banks for a lot cheaper.

I wouldn't bother with Banks, either. I got more power than a PowerPack, and spent less $$ on it, too. (Excluding the DDP4's. )

To you, what is "a little more power?" To me, it is 100hp over what you have right now. ;) :-laf As you can see, a "little" wasn't enough for me. :-laf :-laf

What transmission you got?

Banks, overpriced? Yes, but junk? They do have some decent stuff (exhaust systems, intercoolers, twin-Ram intake, big head WG actuator, etc. ) so I wouldn't generalize it all as junk (agreed some of it isn't that good).
