Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Tracking down oil leak

Fleetguard does make a proper solution for this. It does cost a lot more than a few pieces of PVC.

I closely considered this option as the concept is sound. My concern is that the air flow exiting the breather is still mixing with the air flow from the engine fan. So, for example, what if you have a significant (but unnoticed) leak in the vacuum system and now the air flow has substantially increased (vacuum pump flow plus engine blow-by) out of the crankcase breather - is the modified breather still going to properly separate the oil or is some going to go out the breather as a mist, thus starting the process of coating the radiator fins?

I believe that the crankcase breather outlet needs to be moved away from the front of the engine, especially the fan air flow area.

Just as important is what several people have mentioned here - if you live in cold climate and your modification includes a few feet of piping, you are running the risk of freezing the condensing vapor from the engine before it leaves the piping. Under the right circumstances this condition can completely block the exiting blow-by vapors and start building excessive pressure in the engine crankcase, which ultimately is likely to show up as an engine oil leak (or leaks) - some that are labor intensive to fix.

If you install the Fleetguard system and still get a mess out the hose you have major engine problems inside. I have sold many of these to Dodge and motorhome guys.
