Here is one for all you guys who have dyno experience... . I am off to the PA Dyno Meet on the 16th and I have never been on one of these before. How is the best way to get the most accurate #'s? I assume that you will get the highest #'s by using O. D. and the TC locked.

Any advise that you can send my way is appreciated.

My Opinion is to Dyno in the highest gear.

I know the Dyno operator at the KC dyno day did all the standard shift trucks in direct because he talked to Diesel Dynamics and they said to do it that way. But when DD dynos there automatic trucks. . they do it in Overdrive. That makes no sense to me whatsoever... why dyno a standard in direct and an Auto in OD. Well DDs trucks are Autos and that sure would be a good way to make a higher number. JMHO though.

Hiperf360s truck make 300more ft lbs in 5th than it did in 4th. So OD is my opinion. Let us know what you put down!

Jetpilot,

My truck wouldn't stay in lockup on the dyno last Saterday and looking at your setup you may run into the same problem. Also, you should adjust your kickdown cable prior to running on the dyno.

At the Meet in Dallas. . it depended on the truck... the lower Hp trucks seemed to give better readings in direct than they did in OD (at least the manuals did. . I didn't look at the results close enough for the autos. ) U should get 3 runs on the dyno, so run one in direct. . and 2 on OD... JMO... .

Any weight?

Would some weight in the bed help with traction on the rollers? Or is this only a concern for high HP trucks?:)

Bad, they will allow you to use OD (5th or 6th) if you have a bigger tuuurbo.

the way i look at it i can only get about 22PSI of boost in fourth gear on a Dynojet. so I tell them regardless, use 5th gear.

in fifth gear i can get full boost.

Dyno's are such a joke anyway!!!

I had a mustang in high school and 9 times out of 10 i could beat a faster car than mine. becuase I could out drive the Monkey behind the wheel of the car i was racing. "get you bluff in early, dont show them what you have, and they will blow the tires every time" or miss a gear.

For drag racing it can be used as a very usefull tuning/driving aid. Hows it a driving aid?? When I dynoed my car at the end of last year I found out the HP dropped off a little sooner than I though. I lowered my shift point 300RPM and gained . 2 on both the motor and on the nitrous. They can hook up a broad band O2 sensor also, and you can map your air fuel ratio accross your RPM range. For gassers only of course

And they are real usefull for the CTD... becuase its cool to tell people yeah... this beast put down 500HP to the ground Just my . 02

:--)

Todd, Clark.....

Both of you have good points but nobody would belive the power my truck has unless I gave them a dyno sheet...

At our dyno meet, they did all of them in direct. For some reason the dyno would load the autos to the max but the sticks were all loafing. The boost and egts weren't getting up there! Mine only hit 24 psi and 850 egt. I talked to the guy and got him to do a max speed run - he dials in a max speed and the dyno will load up to keep from exceeding that speed. My hp went up by 65,tq by 180, boost hit 30 and egt hit 1225.

i was talking with the transmission guru's(bill k) son yesterday and was told to run it in overdrive with t/c unlocked. take it up to 1900rpm and ease the throttle down. the last time i dynoed the '01 it was ran with o. d. off and nailed it in 3rd,,it down shifted and the spike was what was read as high hp. i believe i will lenghten the kick down cable a little also. i have the cable longer on my 94 and i like the way it shifts.

Guys, I didnt mean to raise a stink!!

i guess that's what i get for speaking my mind

Jonathon, I dont think Tulsa is in my plans. as you can see, i am selling the truck and i dont need the extra miles or (God forbid) another breakage

hey did you get your truck up and running again? hows that centrifugal settup working out? I just put the FE back in mine. it's holding fine.

we'll play some more with the next truck though... Bad, thanks for the PM I dont want 2wd though, too hard to convert unless i go with leaf springs.

Iceman,

I think we got the words mixed up a little, they way to do it is let the TC lock at approx. 1900 rpm's then roll into the throttle so that the TC will not unlock. Sorry for any confusion.

thanks for clearing that up.

For those who asked:

I did my runs in OD with the TC locked... . Turned 452 HP and 888 torque. This was done on #2 alone, not too bad for a little ol 6 cylinder:)

Thanks to all for your input,

Doug

Just another ?

So if the cable is lengthened & you let the trans lock in o. d. , is their no reason for a mistery switch on an auto ? How about w/ a smart controller ? Thanks in advance---Proflow
