My '06 QCSB squats when I hitch up. It doesn't bother me but oncoming traffic semms to have a problem with my lowbeams and fog lights. What is the best way to level the truck without sacrificing the smooth ride?

Joe if you want the absolute best handling and a little stiffer ride is what you are going to get. I don't have air bags but I here that a lot of dudes like them. Look at my 2004ram website and see what I did to my SB. I added 2 full length leaf springs and it was the best thing I did to my SB.

Firestone Ride Rites for me. Adjsut the air according to load to keep vehicle sitting level. 20 psi keeps my truck level with my 5th wheel RV.

Is it foggy? No? Turn off the fog lights.

Back to the topic - I'm happy with the Timbrens I put on my 04 QCSB. No squat - I pull a 4 horse living quarters gooseneck trailer. If you get them, be sure to skip the spacers - that makes it run too close and you'll hit the spacers on the bumps (BRUTAL). Once they were out, I never noticed them again - except for the profound lack of squat...

I went with the rest of the guys with the Firestone Ride-Rites. . Check www.jcw.com the have them for $229 and free shipping. . I installed them myself in about a hour. . I ran the air lines through the frame and put the air fill valves in the lower two holes where the license plate frame bolts go. . Looks good and has easy access if needed. I run 20 lbs and with the trailer hitched up they go to 30 lbs. .

I would also recommend the air bag setup, that is one of the best things I have done to me truck for load handling. However that being said I would go the little extra for the compressor, which allows you to adjust the load on the fly.

Firestone Ride Rites!!!!!! Oo. They are great!!!! The kit took me a little over 10 hours to install but i am very picky when it comes to making it look good. I would reccommend them to anyone that pulls heavy loads. I have a couple pics on my RR. I'll send more if you'd like!!!!

A couple of things;

Air bags are the quickest and most convenient way of leveling your truck BUT if you have a large load with a high center of gravity (like my slide-in camper), the airbags still allow for too much sway. I've had good success with beefier custom overload springs (as have two friends with similar trucks/loads), although right now I'm considering adding to the main spring pack because the main spring mounts are much beefier and I don't care about unloaded ride quality.

Just a comment on the couple posts regarding the fog/driving lamps. I run with my fog/driving lights on all the time on low beam 'cause the factory low beams are WEAK. Furthermore, the fog/driving lights only come on with the low beams and automatically shut off with the highs, so it was obviously intended that the fog/drivers be used with oncoming traffic. I regularly drive the highway at night in winter conditions and the fog/driving lights substantially increase visability especially on the side of the road. I would definitely have hit at least one deer without them on and so I'll continue to use them regardless of what anyone else thinks.

Same here.

air bags all the way first trip out i actually had to run on my fog lites because my headlites were blinding people loaded i run 1000 lb tongue weight air bags compressor and airtank O yea air horns :-laf have pics on air horn thread Randy

I installed air bag but didn't like them. The king pin kept bouncing off the hitch. Then I installed trimbrem in the air bag brackets. That was ten years ago with 60,000 miles pulling 37 ft fifth wheel.

I have Timbrens on my 2002HD and am very pleased with them. 200 bucks including shipping, took 30 minutes to install, and I have no more squat, less body roll when loaded, and a better loaded ride. 1" space between the Timbrens and axle and no effect on my empty ride either. No air lines to leak, freeze, or snag off road.
