well the title says it all. What is the best and safest way to get 500HP out of my engine. The truck is my daily driver so it needs to have good street manners. It is an automatic so I know the transmission has to be done. But what else do I need?

list of stuff already done.

370 injectors :D

#8 fuel plate :(

exhaust :-laf

K&N dropin filter in swiss cheesed air box, soon to be replaced with BHAF Oo.

HX35 turbo with the 60mm compressor wheel and housing.

I'm guessing you'll need a bigger plate - say a #10, or a #4, or one ground flat - and delivery valves. Along with that, more air - i. e. turbo upgrade.

Edit: Jim Fulmer is the one that'll set you straight on what's needed...

This is a pretty proven combo with a bunch of my guys.

370s

Good Plate

62mm/14cm Phat Shaft (Or Bigger if you choose, or Small Twins)

Exhaust

transmission/Clutch (You already knew that)

3K GSK (or Bigger)

AFC Mods

Timing Change (16. 5 or greater)

Head Studs (not required but recommended)

That gets you right in the ballpark of 500 completely streetable.

Now this is on a 180/215 truck

On a 160/175 truck it will take some more.

But to make a safe bet on 500 go to a 64/14 Turbo (or twins) and use a 4K GSK maybe add some water/meth. With these additions there is no reason that a truck with a correct running injection pump and fuel supply should not reach the 500 range.

Keep in mind that at 500RWHP you should keep a check on your headgasket as it will not like the new increased cylinder pressures.

Some do just fine and others bite the dust. Eventually it will give.

You will have a hard time making hp with the turbo that you are running. You will need a Super Phat Shaft 62/80 or a Super Phat Shaft 64/80. Both are good choices for getting your hp that you are looking for. Thanks, Brady

On a side note.

If I was in your shoes then I would look at the following two options.

1. If you can do the fabrication. Buy a "B2" (not HTB2, but an S400 commonly referred to as a "B2") low pressure turbo. Then build a set of twins using your 35/40 hybrid on top.

2. If you don't want to do the fabrication. Buy a PS62/14 or PS64/14 and then sell your 35/40 hybrid to recoupe some of the cost.

Either one of the above are good options. Every person will have their own opinion on which they would rather have.

Later,

Wes

When you say fabrication shop, what exactly is needed? My parents have a trailer repair shop that has welders, plasma, torch, bandsaw, cutoff wheels and plenty of hand tools, is there somewhere to buy the tubing already bent and piece it together?

Thanks

Tristan

Your current turbo won't take you any past 375 RWHP if you are running the 12 housing, 400-425 on the 14 housing. So you'll need an HTB2/14 or killer B2/14 for 500 HP.

I'm pretty sure you have the 180 pump right? I'd run a 4 plate and DDP4 injectors, a 0 plate gets kinda toasty if you tow. You can keep the 370's but IMO they are just no good for a daily driver. They may be cheap power but they just take EGT's through the roof. DDP4's will give you 50 HP more and may even lower EGT's if not atleast keep them the same.

3kGSK is an absolute minimum, I didn't go with the 4K kit on mine because it's a little up there on the mileage and RPM's really kill a tired engine quickly.

Timing to atleast 16, thats my next mod planned too. Your stock 181 delivery valves are fine for 500 HP, but if you find later that you are wanting more power and/or fall short of your 500 HP skip the 191's and go for city diesel's DV's.

Oh and skip the BHAF as well, doesn't breath well at the 500+ HP point. Go with either an AFE stage 2 pro guard 7 or a scotty2. Only go with the scotty 2 if you want to have you're turbo heard from like a mile away though!

Robert I'll respond to you PM on the open form. I'm going to assume that your truck is an auto by you having a #8 plate. Having said that you don't show having any aftermarket transmission or if you have a stick truck you don't show having a good clutch in it and either will fail in stock form with 500 hp..... guaranteed.

Turbo..... Phat Shaft 64,66 or Silver Bullet

Plate #6 or #5

DV's Stock 181's for now

Injectors 370's..... you have them

GSK... . 4K's

AFC mods a must

Timing at 17-18... on the edge

Studs..... you bet

Later on pull the head for a deck job and O-ring and studs if you don't already have them.

I have a customer's truck like this but he has a tweaked 215 pump and it just flat rocks, will impress most anyone but it hasn't been to the dyno. He needs the head and studs as listed above so the SPS 64 can be turned up to the mid 50's, timing to 20+ and put a Water/Meth kit on it... ..... that should have him at 600+ and drive perfect.
