I'm doing the mirror swap this weekend and would like to get an idea of what is involved to remove the door panels to get at the mirror bases. Any tips or tools would be appreciated. TIA.
No need to remove the panels on my model year 2000. To get to the mirror base I had to remove three screws and detach two trim panel retainers. The door panel can then be pulled for enough out to work on the mirror.
My dad, uncle and I used a flat nail pulling bar. This is one of those bars that you slide up under shingles to get at the tacks. We started at the bottom of the door and worked our way up both sides. The flip up Dodge mirrors that I put on. . came with a some of those plastic doo-dads that hold the panel on. Between the 3 of us. . it took about 45 minutes... and well worth it. .
2" putty knife, wonder bar, etc... I don't think any of us have been able to r&r without buying a few new retainers. Most all auto parts stores have them. Take an example in with you as there's quite a variety available.
when we installed my 2000 Mopar Flip Up's we didn't remove the panels at all.
We removed the screw holding the panel on where the mirror comes into the truck and then my buddy just grabbed and pulled and I'm not sure if he pulled out 2 plastic snaps or 1, but it was enough.
10 minutes each side, push plastic fasteners back into place, reinstall screw and your done!Oo.
