Best way to ship transmission to Standard Transmission in FortWorth

I'm considering shipping the old NV4500 to Standard. I'm in Arkansas and it's only 300 miles or so down there. Any suggestions on best company to use?



I've never shipped via a trucking company, do I need to have it on a pallet and banded down when I show up at the depot, or will they do it as part of the shipping charge.

You need to have it banded or strapped on a pallet. Keep in mind that no matter who you use, it will get "manhandled". The best way would be to secure some blocking to the pallet first so the transmission is cradled.

You could call Standard Transmissions and ask how they ship their rebuilds. Maybe they could ship you an empty crate/pallet so you could use that. I would consider building a crate with a cradle inside to properly hold and cushion the transmission. It will need to be completely drained of all lube and plugged to prevent any seepage.

When American Freightways (FedEx) finally "found" the rebuild I bought from Standard after a couple of weeks of phone calls, I was far from pleased when I picked it up. The transmission was laying loose on a pallet barely hanging on by two straps. No blocking, no nothing. The priority was obviously to get my truck up and running so I focused on that rather than pursuing any satisfaction to be gained by yelling at some lackey over the phone.
