Competition DHRA Division 3

Please educate me a little. If you were going to build an all out Cummins engine, what year or model would be the best? Are the 94-97 engines all the same? Can you put a P-pump on a pre 94? Can you put a 24v head on a 12v engine? Or would it be better to start with a 24v and put a p-pump on it?

Any and all suggestions, comments, or even opinions appreciated. Thanks.

That would be the ticket I think. The best reasons I can think of would be lower compression of the 24v, and the injectors being directly over the cylinder. Not to mention that the 24v head flows more. There are other reasons too, but I'll let you find them. :)

Happy Hunting,

Andrew

He's a turncoat! Makes the record setting dyno pull with a PSD and then leaves us all like a ***** in the night! We feel so used. :{

Don't worry, that's about to change, I promise. :D

John, buy a 24V and P -pump it. That is where you will get big power and good flow without going hog wild with cams and porting and all of that stuff. If you are gonna drop big money on it start out with a 96-98 12V out of a manual transmission truck. You can have that head ported for major flow, more than a 24V head I have been told. You would also start out with the 215 pump.

One thing you do not want is the ECM of a 24V telling you what you can and cannot do. It has to leave IMO.

I have heard lots of folks say that the 24-valve blocks are weaker than the early 12-valve blocks.

As far as the 24-valve head flowing more... . that's debateable. Good luck fitting bigger valves when you already have 4 of 'em stuffed in there.

If you're really going all out... you may as well do a single overhead cam with a custom CNC head... . it has been done... . and works NICELY!

Well, pics will do I think. ;)

So, a 12v with a worked head and a nasty p-pump is the way to go eh?

HVAC, the white truck I have had that has the twin turbos is staying a PSD. It will probably end up towing what ever creation I come up with. ;)

Here are my versions of it.

12mm plungers and barrels, 191 DV's with all the Custom Stuff... Sick.

Same with with cut DV's... . sicker

13mm barrels, cut DV's, with Custom_____, Custom_____,Custom_____... ... ... ... ..... This would be the stupid pump be cause you would be stupid to think you could burn all the fuel.
