Hello fello smokers. I just installed two new audio components in my factory system. I live in a smaller town and we have little radio stations to choose from. The latest and greatest invention for car audio is satelite radio called XM radio. A small roof mounted antena (or glass mount if you choose) pulls digital sound and delivers over 100 different chanels to choose from. You can tune in to your favorite XM radio station in L. A. and drive to New York without changing the station!! It truly is amazing. All you have to do is install this small main receiving unit under your drivers seat and plug it into your receiver's antena port and you are off and running. The entire unit was less than $275. 00 installed and a $9. 00 per month programing charge ind that is all. A small info box mounts neetly to your dash to let you change stations. Also I installed a powered subwoofer under my seat to help with the low bass. Not that I like blaring music, just a good quality tone. The unit is self powered and all you have to do is remove 4 bolts that hold the seat cushion to the frame, screw the unit to the floor of your truck and reinstall the existing cushion. Wire leads are routed under the carpeting and 4 simple hook ups are all you do. The unit is made by Kenwood and is model #KSC-WA62RC. It costs around $250. 00 installed and is a great addition to your factory unit. You will love it!!:)

Thanks JJohnson. I grew up in Pagosa Springs so I know exactly what you are talking about, there is virtually NO radio there. I have been thinking I need a sub and the Kenwood sounds like a nice unit. I am going to have to take a look at it.

JJohnson, does you truck have an Infinty stereo? I'm interested in the sub(and the sat. radio for that matter) but it seems like I read something about there being a trick to adding extra speakers to an Infinity, I can't remember for sure. Thought you might know.

I'm confused. My old minivan has a radio/cassette player that says 'Infinity' right on it. When I got the Turbosaurus, it had a factory radio/CD player in it that I changed out for a factory radio/cassette player. Neither of these radios said 'Infinity' on them, although the truck has 6 speakers. (two tweeters on the pillars, two in the front doors and two in the rear doors. ) So do I have the Infinity sound system or do I not:confused:

Although the minivan's Infinity system sounds very good, that's more than I can say about the QC's. The bass is decidedly muddy and sounds more like an old pre-stereo 1950s 'Hi-Fi'.

Tommy,

I agree that the quad cab has very muddy sound, and because of that I am in the middle of an upgrade to the drivers. I thought my system was non Infinity because the head unit had no logo or any indication that it was... however, when I pulled the quad door speakers they were plainly marked with an Infinity label on the magnet. In addition, the speaker "pigtails" that Crutchfield had sent me to keep me from chopping into the factory harnesses were not correct and I later found out that they are not offered for the Infinity system. You have to splice in. My understanding is that if you have the staging tweeters in the pillars, it is an Infinity system. Check my signature, I think we have reasonably similar trucks.

I hope this helps to some degree.

antenna location

where did you mount the XM antenna? i am looking at a pioneer cd/etc. system that is XM ready, along with an XM receiver. my truck has a western hauler headache rack and i'm pondering over possible locations for the wierd antenna that comes with these things. i really like the whole idea, but am wondering if i want to part with the money.
