Has anyone tried the 3157 LED bulbs from superbrightleds.com to replace the anemic stock backup lights? I just tried a pair of the Sylvania 3057 LEDs, but one would light only very dimly. I swapped it from one side to the other, but got the same results. I've read that backfitting LEDs to electrical systems that weren't designed for them sometimes doesn't work, so I'm not sure what I"m up against.

Here is what I did...

times TWO mounted in the bumper. Second to last picture is the stock Backups in the tail lights and the last is the GROTE Trilliants.

I tried a bulb swap. They looked bright when you looked at the lights but they didn't seem to have as much actual light for backing up. I wound up adding a cheap LED flood light hanging below the bumper. I would do that or something similar to what Motorhead did before wasting time and money on the bulb replacements.

On my 03 I did this. I had them on a separate switch. They are just "tractor lamps" but with brighter sealed beams in the rubber housings. You can tilt and swivel them to the correct angle before tightening them down. I chose not to use the factory holes in the bumper as they blocked out too much light with the bars.
