I think unless you really use your trucks brakes, the added benefits of slotted/drilled rotors are not that apparent. I switched to better rotors this year for both of my trucks, one the 3500 Dodge and the other a Ford. The Dodge was a complete brake up-grade with EGR pads/shoes, lines, fluid, wheel cylinders, and hardware kits com binded with Raybestos rotors and calipers. I choose the Raybestos brand rotors because the EGR folks wanted what I thought was too much for basically the same thing. I went with the Extreme Duty Supper Stop rotors, they are very , very heavy duty with both cross drilled and gas slotted rotor surfaces. The calipers were very good reman units that com binded with the rotors and EGR pads and hardware, helped my truck stop much better then it has ever stooped before. The difference to very noticeable in everyday driving, but very noticeable when I was towing, the extra braking power was a welcome change. The rotors listed for 195. 99 and I got them for 110. 00 each, calipers were in the 60. 00 range, Raybestos is available most everywhere including on the web.
The Ford I used Power stop Rotors and 911 pads/shoes. They too were very good and gave the truck a noticeably better braking system, not as good as the EGR system, but much better then stock. Performance brakes sells the Power stop rotors and 911 pads.
I am very happy with both brake jobs, they both did what they claimed and made the truck stop better. The EGR pads and shoes are simply fantastic, they can repeat stop after stop with no fade and very little dust, They are worth every penny of there 180. 00 set. I have owned my truck since it was new, and never has it been able to stop like this. I did not know a 8400lb truck was capable of stopping so quickly, they are just amazing and worth every penny. Also, many TDR members experience pulling problems with their truck, most seem to pull to the right. I have nothing but straight stops, and attribute this to quality parts, replacing all needed parts with new, and doing a good brake job. Take your time and do what is needed, the results are worth the effort.
