Better Comp Wire Tap

I was wondering if there is a better way to tap the pump wire while still being somewhat stealthy. My truck did have a little engine stumble every once in a while and I have read that it is because of a somewhat poor connection to the pump wire.

Trying to be stealth by piercing the wires? I guess you can make a small extention "Y" wire and use two of those Edge scotch loks on the pump wire. Double the wire connection.

The only other way I've seen is the Scotch connectors. I have two on my truck and they deffinately leave a obvious gouge in the insulation.

I don't plan on adding a box now,but I have several 24V's we use for plowing,and may in the future,if I could hide it... . so



Is there not any way to connect to the wire further back in the harness,where it can't easily be seen,and is covered by the wiring loom ? Such as behind the engine. You could make a more permanent connection and hide it,then add a hidden quick disconnect somewhere under the dash. It would take more time to install,but it would be hidden. I doubt they (DC) would tear open a wire harness to look. Would this work ?

Has anyone else had any luck using scotchloks? What size (gauge) is the pump wire? I think that scothloks is the only solution other than soldering.

I had to use the scotchlok when I added the TST box, what a major PIA !!!! Dropped it once, took over an hour to find the bright yellow $#^%$%, which had wedged itself on a lip of the frame . I used dielectric grease to help insure a solid connection. If you look at those wires coming out of the VP44, there ain't alot of room to work, let alone, splice in a Y connection.

I think it is important to mention that none of edge's boxes uses an actual scotch lock to tap the wire. The tap is a very small needle type tap that leaves a tiny mark in the wire when it is removed.

Actually my COMP came with a Scotchlock.

My PE doesn't work anymore. Checked connections and the 3 amp fuse. The needle type connector had opened up, reclosed it but still nothing. I guess I'll have to try punching a new hole in the pump wire.

When I installed my Powermax,I soldered a 10inch extention wire to the pump wire and attached a weatherpak terminal at the end to hook the PMax wire to. The soldered connection is completely insulated,and I used corrugated plastic tubing to hide all the PMax wires. Nothing looks aftermarket here. I even used factory connectors for the map wires.

bigramguy , if there was a way to do that it would have been done a long time ago , these boxes connect post electronics and this is really the only way to do it ...

Simple... instead of scotchloking the pump wire on,I soldered the wire on,that's all. I had to pull that insulation piece up as far as I could so I could get the solder gun in there.



Of course there's no stealth way about this. I clearly left an obvious modification to the pump wire,but I'm not trying to fool anyone(DC warranty). I'm more concerned with a reliable and corrosionless connection than I am invading the warranty police.

TST has a good one

At the TST Products booth at the recent Scheid Diesel Extravaganza in Terre Haute, they had a fancy new connector on display, for connecting to the pump wire. It was a plunger-looking thing, sort of stick-like. I have no idea if it's actually in stock and ready to sell to all of us now. I wish I'd asked, I'm thinking I'd like to have one too...

Y'all give TST a call and see if it's available.

This is interesting... . My old PE (4 months) came with a lil pin prick connector... You mean to tell me my PE comp is going to have one of the Pep Boys fasteners???... . I hope not... .
