If anyone believes that an injector that sprays more fuel into the cylinder resulting in more power also increases your mileage, they might also want to invest in a "Magnetic Fuel Conditioner". Hear claims that those increase milage too!

More power=more fuel=more money. You pay to play.

The bigger injector can save fuel under moderate power conditions. More of the fuel comes in early enough to do work most efficiently. No one disputes your obvious statement that under full power the bigger injectors make more power and use more fuel.

"Early," is such a grey word. Maybe, "at more advantagious timing. " Man, I sure am an anal ass, ain't I? #ad

Maybe, larger injectors may be more efficient at moderate throttle, maybe. I'd like to test it to find out. One thing's for sure, if it was more fuel efficient at moderate power conditions, then bigger injectors would definitely be the way to go. Because then you'd have the potential for both more power and greater efficiency. If some manufacturer wanted to be able to claim that, I could be the test bed.

From what I have seen with my under valve truck more power does result in more MPG. The greatest gain is towing. The way I see it is less throttle same MPH = Better MPG. That is the way it works on gasser the best milage isn't always from jetting them leaner.

JyRO, try it you'll like it #ad

Drawson,

I'm sure I'd like it, and like I said, larger injectors may be more efficient at moderate throttle. And if they were for sure, I'd buy em. I just wish someone would let me try for free first. If I got better fuel mileage I'd pay for em, if not, I'd return them. Then I'd report my findings to the TDR.

Better fuel mileage, more power. That does sound good! #ad
Even if the payback were a long time, that would be OK, cause I'll be keeping this truck for a loooooong time. Unless Dodge comes out with a 4 door truck with an 8' bed. Wooo Hooo! #ad

OK, if you compare two trucks, each weighs 6000lbs, and one is 175hp and the other is 275hp, which motor works less hard to move the 6000lbs? Torque is what breaks inertia and accellerates the mass, horsepower maintains a constant speed. If you set your cruise control at 70mph, it only takes something like 80hp to push the air and roll you down the road. The hard part is the torque to get you up to speed. I saw an increase of 3. 5mpg towing and 4-5mpg bobtail by upping from 175 to 250hp.

I'm not buying into this theory. I've seen the mileage drop under normal driving conditions w/ injectors. On average, 1-1. 5 mpg. Say what you want, but I haven't seen the increase.

It seems to me if you have more smoke, that's more unburned fuel. How can that add to efficiency? Yes, it will add to power because there is more fuel in the chambers to burn, but when some doesn't burn, thats a waste as far as mileage is concerned. If I'm looking at this wrong, please straighten me out.

True, the power gains (drivability) are well worth it, and I DO RECOMMEND INJECTORS for more pulling power.

Thats great if some of you guys have seen actual mileage gains too, but when I've done the math, it always comes out the same. Not using the onboard computer (which is not accurate) but by division.

Many posts on this forum state that smoke equals unburned fuel. Well IMHO BLACK smoke is just normal burned diesel fuel from a hard working diesel. White smoke is unburned diesel fuel or incomplete burned fuel. Blue smoke (highly unlikely) is burned engine oil.
Adding 275's and the VA did not lower my mileage, but did increase the power. I might have gotten . 5 to 1. 5 better MPG, both loaded and unloaded.
Just my 00. 015¢

added: Then again my mileage increases may be the normal increase due to more miles on the truck.

Those gains from BCFAST sound ludicrous to me. You might get a little, (probably not), but 4 - 5 mpg unloaded is completely unrealistic in my opinion.
